Hey baws, my SIL finally got to hold the little fella! Improving every day. He's finally off of morphine (and a little cranky), but his oxygen and CO2 levels are dramatically getting better.
Thanks for all of your love, prayers, and support.
Great way to end this day Hemp, thanks for the update.

Late to the party, just chipped in to help this fine young man.
Wife (Auburn grad, no pics) says it'll cost you a "War Damn Eagle".
Good luck and may God and all His angels watch over your nephew and all sick children.

My brother's business recently reopened, but I don't think it is getting much traffic.
What kind of business? Maybe the OT can send him some traffic.

God bless you.
The little man got moved to a new social setting! He is finally around other babies in the NICU. They are starting to do physical therapy on him by doing some exercises with his arms and legs (which he is apparently not happy about). Getting stronger every day!

Been a minute. What's the latest on the Little Man?

I don't have Facebook, but I check the GoFundMe for updates every day. The last one was on the 24th.
They put links to Facebook on the GoFundMe page.

They updated the GoFundMe for the little baw yesterday, and increased the goal. I don't know if Hemp wanted to bump the thread or not, but I did.

Thank you once again for everyone supporting this Go Fund Me for Wilder! I can't believe it has been 51 days that Wilder has been in NICU. It has been over 90 days that his parent's have been living in Houston. At this time I am resetting the goal for the GO Fund Me. Blake's business has been shut down by our Governor due to the virus. Charlee's unemployment was suspended when she had Wilder. Expenses continue to mount. We had no realistic timeline on how long Wilder would be in Houston in NICU. He continues to improve, but it takes time to grow lungs viable enough to support him! Please continue to Pray for Wilder. Once again, thank you for supporting Wilder through donations and prayers.
Day 51: Update from Wilder's Mom: Wilder has been doing great today. His oxygen is still between 24-28% He will finish his antibiotics tonight. Tomorrow, they should lower the ventilator settings and discuss what’s next! They sat him up for me last night so we could get a picture in his Be Wild onesie. He looked so grown sitting up! Thank you all for the continued prayers... He’s getting better everyday!

coming off an ECMO machine and on to a regular ventilator. Hopefully, within the next few days, his parents will finally be able to hold him.
Still, he is expected to be in NICU for at least another 3 months.
So many donate money but rarely do people also donate a little hope. We have 2 sons. Our path was miscarriage-son-miscarriage-son. Both times the boys spent a significant amount of time in the NICU.
My 15 year old spent 1.5 weeks in the more intensive NICU before a week in the transitional NICU area (where we were able to hold him for the first time.) He had trouble breathing and at one point both lungs collapsed. It was heartbreaking to see parents visiting a premmie one day and the next day see an empty bed there. A lot of nurses quickly became like extended family...I don't know how they are able to handle it when a family isn't able to take their baby home. Like I said he's 15 and aside for mild autism is healthy. (Labor was induced 28 hours before they cut him out and we've never gotten an answer about whether it was a factor.)
My 13 year old was already freaking us out just 36 hours into his life. He was born as scheduled a few days early. He came out quiet and blue. My wife could tell by my face something wasn't right. Long story short, he crashed the next night as I was down there with his godfather. We went to get my wife down there fast. In those 10 minutes he was in the ECMO room surrounded by doctors and nurses and was being put on a ventilator. There were 3 times that weekend where he was almost put in ECMO (once for a long collapse.) Being NICU parent alums they know they didn't have to sugarcoat things for us. He stayed on the ventilator over a week and then spent a week in the not as severe NICU before coming home. He's now 6'4" (well on the way to his projected 6'8"), 170lbs, and as a 6th grader ran in the 4x200 at the state track meet last year. So please pass along that there is light at the end of the tunnel... the NICU team knows what they are doing, they've done it countless times.
Financially...please fellow OTers, donate what you can. We joked about which kid has the higher bill. Between the two it was over $1,200,000. (Thank God for good state of Florida employee insurance.)

That’s great! Glad she got to hold him

13 and 6'4"? Wow....projected 6'8"? Sheesh!
His growth wasn't stunted at all, clearly!
Great that you shared your story! I've known a few families go through similar ordeals, and while every one is unique, it is always a struggle. Any bit of support, emotional or otherwise, helps.

I just donated a little more for the family. This really pulls on my heart. I’ve been through something like this. Please keep us updated on the little guy. Praying he keeps getting stronger!

As promised, here is a onesie that I think y'all will have a good chuckle at.
Little fella should be detubulated (or whatever the term is) today and finally put on just a CPAP machine. Getting stronger every day!
