Closest thing you can get to Uber in NOLA is Nawlins Cab. Their app shows you the cabs and pinpoints which one is coming to pick you up. Dude even called me before he headed over. A painless transaction.

However, I've only gotten the app to work the 7 or 8 times I've tried to use it. Would love to have Uber come into the market. Cab service in NOLA is a special kind of hell.

in 10 years, all cabs will be out of business and you will see Uber as the #1 company with regional and local players along with 3 to 4 national competitors.

Cabs are going full Blockbuster right now.

But they rarely surge prices. Its not like a regular weekend night would have higher prices.

At 1:53 PM PDT, UberX and UberXL are both surging in San Francisco. Oh and for the other poster who brought up Uber in SF, there is no Uber Lux in SF. I think it's only in London.

The cab industry is done. Uber is here.

The service is that much better. The only way cabs can compete is to adapt, which I don't think they will be able to do.

You'd have to be a pretty dumb criminal to hijack a car with GPS
and if I drove UberLux I would install an additional GPS by the tire in case something happens to the phone.

I am have multiple cab drivers tell me they ignore calls from tigerland so basically forcing people to drive or walk. I am too old for all that now so it doesn't effect me anymore.

Uberx drivers would make a killing thursday-saturday just taking people from tigerland. An absolute killing.

Taxi's have enjoyed the luxury of being defacto monopoly it is time that the market was shaking up. It forces them to step up their game, it is like what napster(turned spotify) did to the music industry. frick those who fear change

You'd also have to think that the driver would rate you one star.

I dont have a problem getting cabs in BR. Never had a problem in NOLA either.

I used Yellow Cab for the first time in BR this Saturday night. I called them from Tsunami and they were there to pick me up in about 20 minutes. Not a bad experience at all.

That being said, it was the first time I've been successful calling a cab in BR.

You don't wait 20 minutes for Uber.

Sorry, getting rides from strangers is just begging for problems. No thanks.

Uber drivers go through background checks and are rated by their passengers. By that accord, Uber is way safer than any cab that you strangely get into

Baton Rouge and New Orleans are towns not made for cabs.

1. Called Baton Rouge cab the previous day to pick me up and bring me to a wedding. So I wouldn't drive home. I'm waiting, almost 7 time to leave, call again....they can't pick me up, they busy.

2. Calling New Orleans cabs for anything is a waste of time. I just find a hotel and go wave them down, your best chance.

I've experienced Uber is 2 cities...it was head and shoulders better than cabs. You pay a premium for the service though, but it is worth it

The problem is that BR Cabs are infinitely more expensive than any other cab company. Everything is so spread out here. It will cost you $60 to go from LSU to Sherwood.

Also, NOLA cabs suck because I've yet to have one not shake me down. It's always some West African screaming about his tip and cheating you by taking the long way around.

Honestly, you don't pay much of a premium. Uber and Lyft >>>>> cabs

exactly why uber is perfect for Baton Rouge. It's peek hours are a gold mine but they are only a few nights a week.

How old do you have to be a driver? because if its just having your insurance in your name, i could see college students driving 3 nights a week and pulling in major money just driving tigerland to the cottages 30 times.

cabs arent bad downtown but LSU it is a nightmare because they avoid drunk students.

I don't know if there is an age limit. The last Uber driver I had was a recent MBA grad when in Atlanta
