So, is this an argument supporting Common Core, because it’s already been ditched in my district in favor of Eureka math?

I'm just pointing out the ACT is a terrible measuring stick since the pool of students changes year to year.

Also, there is no Common Core math. Common Core is a benchmark, but it's not a method. Eureka Math and Common Core are not mutually exclusive. You can use Eureka Math to help get to your Common Core standards.

But it always has. This is not the first year that non-college bound kids have taken it. That’s been going on for years.

Maybe 30% of teachers are good at teaching

I agree, but I also believe that this is not unique to the teaching profession.

It has way more to do with culture than aptitude or time in the class room.

In America it's culcha, and is the dumbing down of our society to the lowest common denominator.

The pool of elite students have always taken it, but more and more folks with no business going to college take it now. Some schools basically require it to be taken in high school. More dumbasses than ever take the test, and the number continues to climb.

Look at your initial ACT score in comparison to the last. They’re the same. This data also omits the last few years, when the common core students would have started to have an effect.

ACT scores have gone up at the school I’m at every year for the past 8 years.

I have a Minor in Math with my degree in CSC. I struggle to understand my son's first grade homework. The directions just make no sense most of the time. Its ridiculous how they are trying to teach this shite. They don't even send home the textbook so that I can actually see what they are learning.

I'd argue that the school day is too long. How is that in college, I'm in class for at most 25 hours but elementary, middle, and high school kids are in class for 40 hours a week?

8-3 is roughly 6 hours of class time, taking away lunch/PE/recess etc. But I get what you’re saying. That was the biggest adjustment for me back in college. I took 15 hours and I was in class 15 hours a week. Worked a part time job and studied and still had plenty of free time. And after my freshman year, maybe halfway through my sophomore year, my grades were way better. Most of my general studies were done and I was taking business school classes. It was actually interesting and I learned way more in there than I ever did in high school.

Imagine the math teachers trying to make this adjustment, especially below high school level.

You teachers are a huge reason for this, you f'in suck.

Getting rid of tenure should be a big deal for Education Director. Want raises, work for them, want to keep working, be a good teacher.

Thank you, sir. I’d give you the opportunity to interview any student whom I’ve ever taught personally, but I know that’s not possible. Until then, continue with your irrational teacher hate.
