Landlord sells house.
New landlord evicts.
New landlord sets up STR.
No recorded lease means the new owner doesn't have to recognize lease. Doesn't matter how long you have lived there or how on time you have been with your rent.

More like real estate investment firm takes taxpayer money in exchange for building a residential complex that will be mixed income for a period of X years. On X years and 1 day, the poors get served with notices and the rent goes up

Cutting off welfare and food stamps, for families that have lived on them for years, would not only cull the population but also curb crime.

Idiots in this thread will see poor people not paying their rent instead of their tax dollars and public assets being given away to private businesses.

Generally the worst thing that happens to people who don't pay rent is that they're evicted and move on to the next place, paying the deposit and first month's rent until repeating the process. I'm not seeing landlords suing to go after past due rent.
The *causes* why people fall into the cycle and either wilfully choose to stop paying rent and/or struggle financially (low pay, high rent, etc) are definately worth a discussion, but we can't pretend that many dont live in the system to their own advantage.
