By some miracle the F22 is coming to Hammond October 20/21
You're in for a treat. That machine takes one look at physics, kicks physics' arse, then fricks physics' girl while it makes physics watch.
The Heritage Flights are pretty fricking awesome, too. It's a formation pass across the airfield with an F-22 or another modern fighter and some older fighter aircraft. They seem to have a P-40 slated for that date. Sometimes, if the Air Force has a gen 4 fighter that's doing a display (i.e.: an F-16) or maybe an A-10, they'll send them up to fly the formation as well. Either way, the old warbird should be leading the way. You're going to be struck by two things when you see this. First, you're not going to believe how BIG the F-22 actually is compared to that WW2 bird. It will absolutely DWARF the WW2 fighter. When you see the actual size of the thing next to the WW2 plane, remember: the F-22 looks like a bumblebee on radar, but that old bird looks like a barn. Second, you're not going to believe how QUIET the F-22 is during the pass. It'll basically be at idle and the WW2 fighter is going to have its throttle firewalled just to keep up. That old piston engine is going to be screaming and you'll just kind of hear the turbojets whining behind the roar of the piston engine. When the F-22 peels off of the formation and the pilot lets the jet breathe to build up some speed, though, you'll hear it just fine.
I have a boner now.
ETA: I found a picture of a similar Heritage Flight to one I saw at Belle Chasse when they sent an F-16 up to join the F-22 and the P-51. This really nicely shows how they look.

Since the top speed of those WWII fighters is upper 300s to mid 400's depending on the plane, that may not be far off, but wide open? Naw.

this..They were just coming online when I was in Langley several years back and specifically remember how crazy it was that a machine that large could sneak up on you

They're going to be close to it. They're 200 feet off the ground, not at 15,000 feet. The point wasn't whether or not the throttles will be at 92% or 94%, anyway. The point was that the old bird's engine will be LOUD.

A well deserved flyover for an American hero!
Or...as the MSM would note:
"Trump attempts to pound red tail!".

If I’m not mistaken, the Tuskegee Airmen were some fantastic fighters. A lot of bomber crews owe them their lives.

Wasn’t trying to turn this into a race thing.

nor am I, it's just been a perpetuated myth that those guys were some super badass fighter pilots that never lost a knife fight and never lost a plane they were escorting, now, they were badass individuals in accomplishing what they did and overcame some incredible, racist opposition and obstacles, I've had the pleasure of meeting and talking to a few of these gentlemen and they are truly awesome individuals
