I had no idea "Friendsgiving" was a political thing now.
It's really not, it's just that it's probably popular in urban areas (or was) and those people tend lefty and are more likely to be of the "I won't go to my Trump family's house for Thanksgiving" or "My parents aren't requiring masks for Thanksgiving so we're not going" type.
So in that way it's going to supplant "real" Thanksgiving for some.

When did the word Thanksgiving become offensive?

How do I melt about this without making it obvious I'm melting?

Maybe Friendsgiving is the happiest version of Thanksgiving because your family died in a plane crash and you moved far from your home town. A new group of people embrace you and then you had Thanksgiving with them they just called it Friendsgiving because they all had similar faced up stories of bad shite happening to the families they spent their Thanksgivings with. So instead of jinxing it they call it friendsgicing and retired the name Thanksgiving.

I guess Christmas will now become urban millennial "Friendsmas."
Independence day, Friendependence day.

We did our first “friendsgiving” 12 years ago after buying our home in our early twentys . We have done it at my house every year since . It was an excuse to cook the shite we wanted for thanksgiving and get together with our friends and eat Turkey and get drunk before spending the holiday with our family . It’s crazy how big it’s grown the past few years to the point there’s actually decorations and shite. It has become a great tradition with our group and grown big time as we all has kids now. Will probably have close to 30 people at it this year including kids (god help me)

I don’t think it’s meant to be political, I think it’s just something people started doing to celebrate with friends they actually like before doing Thanksgiving with their families
Well, they should stop that and start liking their families instead.

Weird, I know.
Or it’s weird this bothers you so much.

Not at all.
People like yourself require it for validation. I certainly wouldn't take that from you.

Its literally having dinner with friends, which has been going on for centuries.
Millennials just had to put a label on it so they can hashtag it to death on social media, and make sure everyone knows they're a part of the trend.

Weird. We've done several Friendsgiving get togethers right here in south Louisiana. We basically did one last week while in NC visiting with friends who flew/drove in from all over the US, plus our friends in the states from Israel. Every single friend in this group is conservative.
We started doing it years ago because there aren't many excuses to get the group together and go all out, and we all have busy lives and miss each other.

Thanksgiving is with family. Most families are in the situation that they have to spend the day with family, but they may dislike relatives, have a boring vibe, have different socioeconomic lifestyles, etc. You are there for family members, and may be in a situation that you are only there because of 1 or 2 relatives who want to see you.
Friendsgiving is held the day or week before or the two days after Thanksgiving. Now you get to enjoy the day/night with friends who you are close to throughout your life and with similar lifestyles, and can act like your self and stupid and not be judged. Some of the friends are in town from another state to see family, so this is a special moment for the friends to get together and catch up since everyone has come home.
It is not political.

Fact
Nothing changed, some urban millennials changed the name to feel special, but its still thanksgiving.

What a strange thing to care about

People make up names for things all the time. It isn't a big deal.

There is no reason for a grown man with a family to have friends.
