Wait what? You do realize Friendsgiving is independent to Thanksgiving.

It’s a get-together of friends to do a Thanksgiving style meal, typically the weekend before Thanksgiving.

You still do the traditional fare with family.

Thanksgiving, as in giving Thanks for white ancestors taking the land of the indigenous peoples, killing their men and stealing their women?

Now that's what I'm talking about and something to be thankful for

When did the word Thanksgiving become offensive? Add it to the list of cancelled words.

Men always do the turkey, women do the sides.

It comes from people getting together with friends rather than going home with family.

It's not even supposed to be a "rather than" thing.

It's literally just people having a Thanksgiving-esque meal with friends on or around the time of Thanksgiving. Nothing more, nothing less.

My wife and I have hosted/attended these types of gatherings several times over the years, but we still did the traditional Thanksgiving with our families. It's a great excuse to get together with friends and have a good time.

I went to a "friendsgiving" last year, it was just Thanksgiving with friends NOT on Thanksgiving day. More liquor was involved.

I'd prefer "Friendsgiving" with an optional "Thanksgiving". I'm tired of hearing my MIL bitch about my FIL now that they're divorced, having to travel to see extended family, or some other issue with family. Always seems like something. Trivial problems but I'm kind of hearing about everyone else's mess they've made.

Friendsgiving is a thing for millenials where they can all get together and pretend to be family and pretend their pets are children.

There is definitely a lot of truth to this. It's an inoffensive concept, although I also understand it annoying people. It's another urban/millennial thing that is fine but will probably in time degrade the idea of Thanksgiving being a family-centered holiday.

Divorce has fricked up the idea of a family centered holiday more than any millenial

It mostly started for those that didn’t have family to go to. Before getting married I didn’t have a family to go to thanksgiving with. I did Friendsgiving. With friends because that’s all I had.

It’s funny how this board has gone from laughing at sky screaming Hillary supporters to sky screaming about Friendsgiving.

there would almost certainly be less Friendsgivings if there was less divorce over the last 40 years or so.

its a day where you have a thanksgiving meal like party with friends that not on thanksgiving. so that way you can spend actual thanksgiving with family.

but you jumped right in politicizing it. good job.
