And your cash transactions you are used to doing with a teller will be at an "PTM" with a person sitting across the country, talking to you on a screen.

Maybe. They will charge you for it though.

Those dumbasses took out all of their coin counting machines a few years ago and it pissed me off. I liked to go in a few times a year to cash in my coins for drinking money. Now I have to go to the grocery store and pay for the service.

They were originally a credit card company and then became a bank, buying out Hibernia, etc. Guess they are going back to the old business model.

They are a business that got you to help market their name for them.

Some companies actually pay people to do this.

You did it for free - unless you are an Ad Agency undercover.

As a banking professional this will be the future in the next 5-10 years. Get used to it. Inside human teller jobs will be extinct, except for the drive thru. But, drive thrus will be the next area phased out. Bankers will be more like "financial advisors". Right now there's little need to go to a branch to complete a transaction or minor service issue.

I probably haven't stepped foot in a bank 2 times in the past 3 years.

Several times a week I still wonder why people stand in a teller line to cash a paper check. You would think it's mostly the elderly, but it's not. Even our older clients have figured out the technology. But, I do notice it's a lot of foreign workers cashing their paycheck and then heading over next door to western union.

I work in the banking industry as well, although on the operational side. Numbers are showing that the last few years, the amount of people that come into your local brick and mortar banks is decreasing while online/digital use is rising.

There is still a place for brick and mortar locations IMO for a bit longer, especially for community banks. However, moving forward this will eventually be the future of banking all over.

Capital One is a big enough company, that they can jump in front of the trend now and get a foothold. They can also afford to take the risk and fine tune the "Banking Cafe" instrument.

As you notice in that one photo, there is still a walk up traditional teller line. I'd imagine they would have to tweak it to have at least a couple of offices for private banking business.

Eventually, most likely in the next 20 years, going into a bank will be something most people just wont do anymore. They will log in from the comfort of their homes and do their banking business.

While the "Cafe" concept does not appear appealing to most us, as we age and the newer generations become the primary focus of banking, this will become more "normal."

I don't like the idea myself, but this appears to be the direction the business is heading.
