The most difficult thing about elite universities is getting in.

Reminds of all the people I knew in college who would openly say shite like “do you know who my father/family is?”
Bro, if they were anyone worth knowing you wouldn’t have to ask stupid rhetorical questions of random arse people.
This just confirms what has always been known: people of status and money get what they want regardless of skill or ability and nobody will ever question it because capitalism. However, people who think they are of status and money have to engineer backchannels to work around the fact that they’re too stupid and naive to realize they’re a part of the have nots. The rest of us just do the best we can with what we got and take the best available route, whether it’s a state college, community college, or the relatively rare shot at a private school that actually offers a scholarship to make it feasible to even attend.

It's a private school. I really DGAF.
But it’s a private school that is partially funded by massive amounts of public loans. When you dip into those you’re open to the same scrutiny as a public school.

I don't care. It's a private school.

I don't have a problem with this. Not sure why it's such a big story TBH.

Emails among athletics, admissions and fundraising officials at the University of Southern California show the school explicitly weighed how much money applicants’ families could donate when determining whether to admit students.
Seems like good business.

As a private University is there a problem with them selecting their students?
Almost all private schools get government money, too.
The number that don't can be counted on one hand

how did they get the emails, USC is a private school, i thought, so they wouldn't be subjected to sunshine laws, like cal or ucla would???
