Did the incoming class of 2018 get a vote? Because they will still pay the fees.
So when did the fee take effect? Seems like incoming students get to enjoy something paid for by previous classes.

All students have to pay fees to keep that ratty golf course open so non-LSU students can have an extremely cheap place to play golf.

But as universities add more and more "campus life" type stuff, the fees have increased exponentially.
You can thank social media brotatochip. It's all a competition now. Doesn't matter how frivolous or stupid, the universities have to build it to compete with the other universities.
Same with student living. 15 years ago places like the cottages, woodlands, Briarwood, etc and all the "luxurious student living" and cottages and all that shite would be inconceivable. You're paying for shite so you can post it on Facebook and say "oh yeah friends back home? My college has a lazy river, my apt is a stand alone cottage with stainless steel and granite. Your school/apt is lameeee".

Interesting point. I agree 100% about student living.

The Lazy River and area will have expenses the entire time it is open. Maintenance and Capital Expenditures.

It's time LSU was taken private and all the state funds going to run it be given to students as vouchers and let them use them at any school in the State. If they want to go to LSU then good--LSU gets the money.
Let LSU charge whatever tuition and whatever fees they want. Obviously there are things their customers are willing to pay for.
Get LSU off the back of La taxpayers now and give the administration the power to run it how they want.

The fees are a small percentage of the total tuition cost. Tuition for 15 hours is 14,030 while the fees are 641. That's 4.5%. I agree that college tuition is higher than it should be, but it isn't because of fees. It is due to institutions realizing that their college degree is becoming a necessity in order for an individual to obtain a job in the major job markets(STEM).

So maybe 5% of the student population in a single year voted to increase fees for all students forever? Seems fair.
Attending LSU isn’t mandatory. If you can’t afford the fees, go to Southeastern.

It's about 13% of the LSU budget that taxpayers are on the hook for and decreases yearly.
Soon

Uhhhhhh what? I never paid close to 14k for 15 hours. That must be out of state tuition.

Make it zero.
No need to subsidize students who have the money to pay for a lazy river. They obviously have discretionary income. Let them build a brothel if they want but leave the taxpayers out of it.

It decreases every year.
There are many advocates trying to push it to zero.

It's about 6k per semester now I believe. When I was at LSU it was $1,200. My parents just wrote a check for my tuition every semester

When it is zero then make it private. Let them charge what they want for tuition and for lazy rivers.
Posted on 12/16/17 at 1:09 pm to beerJeep
It was. My bad. In state is 5,668. Brings fees to 10.5% of total cost.

The state doesn't want it to go private.

The students don't pay for it, their parents do. The same goes for all these luxury apartments.

I do. The bureaucrats do not. They like the perks.
I am so tired of hearing Alexander whine ever session about money. Cut them off and let them run the school as they wish on the money they raise. Make them compete for students.

All bout the rental houses down brightside and in LBP.
Living in a house during college > living in an apartment
