Maybe if I got to be a judge Dredd type that played by his own rules, didn’t have to deal with a bunch of paperwork and red tape and certainly didn’t have to answer to the morons in government.
So…no

Anytime I would have to use my gun I would be subject to paid admin leave with a criminal investigation determining if I did anything wrong

Nope.
Given that the chief and mayor in either city would use you like a cum rag if they got the slightest bit of pressure from the “minority community”, the only way to do that job would be to put your shift in doing as little as possible.

That depends. Is my hourly rate off duty (over 40 hours) 1.5x?
If so, hell yea. I could work my normal 60 that I already work and make 190k a year.
Plus get the pension for that inflated amount? Count me in.

Most of us make that with zero OT.

I'd rather risk my life with Hydrogen leaks or H2S than work one of those neighborhoods and risk it with, well you know.

I don't need money that badly.

Not even for a billion dollars. Money is not eerything if you die before 30-40 years old.

In theory, not a chance in hell. But knowing how easy it is for NOPD officers to get paid overtime for easy detail such as “additional security” for events, it’d be a decision to which I’d be compelled to give a lot of additional thought before ruling out completely. Some of these NOPD officers make insane money because of approved overtime.
Still, all that said, I lean against joining the force. The job consists of too much bureaucratic bullshite and exposes you to way too many life-or-death situations to warrant a base salary of ~$120k (especially given Nola’s absurd cost of living).

How many cops have died in NOPD the last 10 years? Probably so. 120k is a lot even tho this is the OT.

I’d die for a billion rn if it went to my family.

Pretty sure with the Broome/Paul regime there are no expectations to actually arrest most criminals... so sounds like a pretty good pay to hang out at Tony's and Krispy Kreme
