What about assembled in America? Close enough?

This is a valid question because there is a TON of grey area here.

What if someone gets the chemicals from China they use to make plastics? Is that Chinese or American? It would have to require some standard I'd think to classify things as "American Made", but I don't know what that is.

don't some auto makers do that? have the parts made in other countries and assemble the vehicle in the U.S. ?

wouldn't be about avoiding China for me as much as ensuring money goes to American companies during this brutal economic time.

I’m not sure you know how things work.

For ease of hypothetical use, let’s take Apple. They make their phones in China. They are an American company. You think that money doesn’t go to them?

Oh yeah. Components come from all over. Light bulbs from Taiwan, wire harnesses from China, etc.

I think assembled in America would be good enough I guess. Meaning there were American workers that are employed to put things together before shipping to reseller (who would also have to be American I think in my scenario).

So maybe two filters:

- Product Manufactured/Assembled Country
- Reseller Location Country

And the way to get around the PC crowd is to put every country in that filter so anyone in other countries can choose to support their homeland as well.

Yes, and I +1 your comment

Solid idea that should be looked into by all companies.

Just show country of origin. Would prefer made in america, but also wouldn't have a problem buying from Canada, South Korea, Germany, japan, few other European countries. Would like to avoid countries who are our enemies.

This is a great idea.

I only buy non Chinese items from amazon any chance I get. I’m not so much concerned with American only but non Chinese since they cheat the WTO while we and others don’t.

I always ask the question to sellers on Amazon of where products are made too

Agree

I already search for "USA" a fair amount

Although in reality I'd happily by from other countries too, and "Not made in China" would probably be equally useful.

I know how things work just fine, thanks.

iPhones wouldn't make the cut. I said "American companies" meaning companies with manufacturing/assembly plants in America for that particular product. You're right, I could've used more words and been more specific, but I thought people would know what I meant. A non-a-hole could've probably deduced what I meant based on the topic of the thread.

But hey, you be you.

Most people on this board probably don't even understand what that means or anything about logic

Amazon has gotten so bad with shitty Chinese products. Sure, I appreciate some degree of choice and I there are stories of very good products growing out of this move (Anker, Aukey, RavPower), but these days it's become tedious to wade through the scores of shite rip off products to find something from someone semi-reputable (regardless of whether they're Chinese or not).

When push comes to shove @ saving money, Americans will dump the filter and go back to buying Chiy'na.

You know it. I know it. Most logical people know it.

I go to this website fairly regularly:

www.madeinamerica.co

Kind of an online directory of stuff made here.

Sure. If there's a huge price or quality disparity I would be guilty of that.

But I would still like to see if there is a competitively rated/priced American product each time I buy something.
