They are the future.
Certainly.
Certainly.

I have taken a ride in a driverless 18 wheeler by Aurora. The passenger seat has to have a human for now that is monitoring. It’s freaking awesome.

Rented a Tesla this week and it was awesome.

Would you take a ride in a driverless car?

Not quite yet. I'm not even good with riding in cars others are driving very often.
Its more of a control freak thing.

We take Waymo’s all the time. They rock.

I’m more interested in riding a paternoster.

I've recently taken a couple rides in a Waymo in the Austin area. Appears they aren't allowed on highways yet so they just take surface streets so depending on your trip it can take significantly longer.
I took a few rides in them before they were released to the public and they took highways. Mine hopped right on I-35 in Downtown Austin. Maybe they scaled that back with the Uber rollout.
My Waymo Experience

95% of the time assholes roll through or straight up run the four-way stop sign by my house. Waymo comes to a complete stop every single time. Would take that any day over Uber

I've done Waymo a bunch of times in SF and Phoenix. It's nice. But i'm not a fan of a smelly Uber driving trying to talk to me about how my flight was.

How far in the bag am I?

I absolutely would since they don't get on interstates or highways at this point. Cruising on surface streets going a handful of miles? Why not
The worst that's gonna happen is you get in a minor fender bender at 30mph, but the chances of that are slimmer than driving yourself that same distance. Plus if it happens you're gonna get paid a nice sum to never speak of it again.
On busy interstates at 80mph? Not ready for that yet

I did, in Austin too.
It drove as good or better than most humans. More cautious for sure.
I'd do it again.

Gonna do it tomorrow in San Francisco!
My daughter and her husband did this earlier this year, they loved it! Some parts of the drive felt like a zoo safari- but they felt safe in the car.

The current full self driving in the X i drove excelled on the highway. It's essentially driverless because you're just sitting there.

They will drive on highways and the interstate in Phoenix. They’ll also take you to a busy airport and drop you off at the terminal amidst all those crazies zipping in and out.
The Uber drivers know that Waymo is the safer driver so they routinely cut off the Waymo vehicles to get a preferred location.
