Never ever, even if she corrected me and even in a professional setting.

I get “Doc” and “hey Doc” a lot from friends and family. I’m used to it, but I still don’t like it. I would NEVER introduce myself as such in public. In fact I’m always hesitant to even tell people what I do for a living.

Same. When asked I’ll say medical field. If asked further I’ll say I work in surgery. Rarely does if go past that.

My wife or MIL on the other hand will immediately tell people what i do. Their response when I get on them for telling, “you worked hard to get were you are, why don’t you want people to know?”

In all seriousness, I laugh at every lawyer who allows people to refer to him as “Attorney Joe” or whatever. Once mediated a case with this guy who insisted on being called “Attorney [name],” but obviously we refused to call him that. It was like a movie.

I work in the environmental consulting field, and have seen so many PhDs wash out of the profession because they have no people skills and can't manage a project budget or timeline. I have a lot more respect for someone who has built a business than I do for someone who stayed in school way longer than they probably needed to unless they are going into the medical field.

You can get a fricking PhD in exercise science or library studies, that doesn't make you special.

By definition, a PhD makes you special because you had to contribute a novel idea or fill a gap in knowledge. Medical degrees are nothing more than professional training.

The American English colloquial usage of doctor for physicians is what has created this pissing contest.

MDs pretty much stole the title.

I worked with brilliant PhDs that invented technology that revolutionized medicine. Technology without which your “real doctors” would still be ordering exploratory surgery for unexplained pain. They were more than deserving of being called “doctor” which is after all a title created for those earning the PhD by doing research that added to the sum total of man’s knowledge.

I do not think this one sees the irony in his own post. Lol

Phd is a doctor. Contrary to popular belief the PhD proceeds the MD. Both are doctors. All that means is terminally degrees in one’s field.

I really do not care if people call me doctor in a professional or private setting…. I only insist on it with students and I never correct anyone if they say Mr. Freddie, I really do not care. Both are forms of respectfully address and should be acknowledged as such.

It’s like putting Esquire after your name when you finish law school.

No one cares and it looks stupid

A PhD is not something you can see on a person, so it’s probably more appropriate to address people by what you can see, so in this case I’d probably go with “Yo, fatass.”
