Would you rather live in New Orleans or Memphis?

Sorry if this has been done before, but I’m graduating within the next year and I’m looking to move to one of these two locations.

I’m leaning towards memphis because
A) It’s cleaner (beal is 100x cleaner than Bourbon)
B) No threat of Hurricanes and they experience 4 seasons
C) Proximity to other locations
D) Tennessee has no state income tax

However Nola would put me closer to family and I could go to pels games. Then of course the fishing and food

Thoughts?

New Orleans proper is far better than Memphis proper, but Memphis has much nicer suburbs.

Can I ask why you’re only considering those two?

Germantown is nice but not all the suburbs are. Bartlett is nasty. Northern Mississippi suburbs aren’t that great.

Nola has a better skyline too. Memphis, for being a large city, has an unimpressive skyline.

I have family in North Mississippi and family in South Louisiana

And I can get to both via a simple drive down I55.

But if I can land a job thats better somewhere else, I won’t be picky

I'd prefer New Orleans as it's cooler, but Memphis (guessing because of FedEx, St. Jude, International Paper) has better and more jobs.

So...Memphis.

Memphrika, but only because there is no state income tax in Tennessee.

Collierville seems like a nice burb.

New Orleans is so much more fun and has so many more things I like to do, but Tennessee has a much better economy and no income tax.

Its also pretty damn cheap to live in Memphis compared to New Orleans.

This is a tough one.

I drive up to Memphis every few weeks. It's not cleaner than NOLA, only has a fraction of the food, and loaded with cultcha. Unless your idea of a good time is milling around a BassPro or listening to a police scanner then there is very little going for Memphis over NOLA. I'll be happy when I don't have to visit that shithole again.

I’ve been pretty happy in Memphis so far. Obviously not a perfect place but your money goes far and there are nice, upscale areas in abundance.

I’ve lived in both and prefer NOLA by a large margin. NOLA has its issues, but Memphis did nothing for me. There wasn’t much to do or see, food was meh (you better love BBQ), not many nice parts of town in Memphis proper, Blues music is meh. Beale is nicer than Bourbon but it’s only a few blocks long and not a wide variety of bars; did I mention you better like Blues.

I’d consider Nashville. It’s an hour further to New Orleans, but a much nicer city than Memphis. Broadway>Bourbon>Beale St. You can slam a new rando Bacherloette Party girl every week.

Food is good there, though more New American than Creole.

Plus, you’re close to Atlanta, Memphis, Asheville, Louisville, Mountains, etc...

Still no state income tax.
