Would you name your son a Junior (Jr.) - why or why not?

The Mrs. and I were casually discussing baby names the other day and I brought up the idea of a junior - more as a joke than anything else - and she immediately shot it down. I'm pretty indifferent on the topic and wouldn't do it myself, but I've found some people have pretty strong opinions on it. Some studies suggest juniors are more likely to be in positions of power and others suggest juniors are more likely to need psychiatric treatment.
I do wonder about the thought process that goes into the first time a name is passed down from father to son and wanted to hear some feedback. What about the pressure to go with a III or IV down the line? Is it narcissistic? For those of you who are a junior, would you recommend it? For those of you who are a senior, what was the motivation to go with a junior?
ETA: Edited the title for clarity on Jr. as the second, not Junior the name.

No. Maybe if your names or family carries some prestige, but other than that, I think its a bit silly.
If I ever have a son, his middle name will be my Dad's name though.

As a junior, I'm neither in a power position nor in need of psychiatric treatment. I never really think about being a junior though because my dad goes by the first name and I go by my middle name.
Not sure if I'll pass it on to make a III though if I ever have a son.

If I were a III I would name my kid the IV, but I am not going to name a kid Jr.

You mean naming him "Junior" or being your name, Jr?
My family has a history of dads naming sons after themselves. I am one of those and I was a II. My cousin was one and he is a [name] Jr.
Personally, I think junior kinda sounds trashy but whatever you and your wife want is all that matters.

That is kinda where I side. I want to know more about the person that took that first dive with Jr. though.

Nope.
Mostly because I wanted both of my sons to be their own person, not a little me. My oldest does have my middle name as his middle name, and the younger shares my father's initials but not his names. Call them Easter eggs or whatever...
Plus, my dad was a junior and he hated his name and spared me that. Granted, his name was terrible and it was more that than anything, but still.

Have fun turning your heads for every family gathering your whole life when someone says your names...."No, the other Walter"

Just named my son the IV. He's going by his middle name, as my father does.

Would you go with III for your son?

My son is the 4th Robert, but we all have different middle names. My grandfather was called his middle name, and my Father was for a while then he switched to his first name. My son is called by his middle name as well. It also helped in naming that my wife's grandfather and uncle were also Robert, so it was a family name from both sides.

For my parents, it wasn't about the prestige of the name. They just couldn't really decide what they wanted for a name. My mom was the one who pushed for the junior in the end.
Word of advice, if you name your kid jr or II or whatever, it can make for an interesting situation if your kid is ever arrested and it's put in the arrest section of the paper and has your address on his license
or so I've heard...

No. Let him have his own identity.

You see that often, and many times the III goes by Trey, but if you're going to do that then what is the point of passing on the name? I'm genuinely curious.
