Would you continue to tip servers if the tipped minimum wage was raised to $15/hour?

I have to imaging the price of the meal will skyrocket, would you still tip the server if we moved to a more european system?

For those who don't know, tipping isn't a thing in most other countries.

They will just start automatically adding it to your bill.

I assume servers wouldn't be subject to MW laws just like they are now.

Servers already don't make the current minimum wage in most cases. I doubt they would be bumped up to $15/hour. They would still mostly work on tips.

I would tip the ones that would be lucky enough to keep their jobs.

Bidens plan specifically addresses removing the tipped minimum wage.

I have to imaging servers hate this. I made a lot more than $15/hour when I was a server.

I don't tip much in Portland or Seattle.

They wanted a higher wage, cool...you got it. Now you don't need as much from me.

Whoa.

That's a pretty monumental shift. And, you're right, servers definitely wouldn't like that, but perhaps the best way to shift public opinions is to give the people exactly what they voted for. I'd imagine an already damaged service industry would be in for one hell of a ride if this were implemented.

Actually, it really doesn’t. When you factor in a tip, plus that the taxes are already included in the price (why not here?!), it’s kind of a wash. Plus the service is better since everyone is waiting on you and not just one person.

Yes. Tipping needs to end.

I would still tip servers/bartenders at higher end places, but I don't know that I'd still tip the to-go people and such.

Any server/bartender at a higher end establishment is going to be making more than $15/hr. already after tips.

I am just wondering how long it will be until we are supposed to go to a "set amount" instead of a percentage. Should a waitress at a diner receive less of a tip than someone working at a steakhouse? (Yes I know the answer, but it doesn't matter.. this is coming).

They make min wage ($10.19) plus tips in AK.

I have a coworker who was making $120k a year as a bartender before COVID cut their operations dramatically.

I think it will change the dynamics of tipping dramatically once people realize how much these people really can make.

depends on the residual costs vs the service i am getting back. if we are going to raise the minimum wage to say $15 i'd expect people to take their jobs more seriously and take more pride in what they do.

will that happen? no

NO!!

Then again, if the service was absolutely outstanding, I might leave a nominal tip.
