I would not. but I notice KIA ownership is all over the place. Neighbors who could afford any car, own 2 KIAs. I've never been impressed with my parent's older KIA Optima or Hyundai Tuscon.
Stick with Toyota, Honda. (or Mazda for me).

I think Kia is a fine car, but if you’re specifically looking in the compact sedan segment, it’s really hard to look past Corolla and Civic, and I’d even add Mazda 3.

Those are really going to be your best bets from a longevity and reliability standpoint.

Don’t be scared of reliability with the Toyota and Honda CVTs. Idk about Toyota, but Honda builds their own in house. Neither have the issues Nissan does with that jatco bullshite. Mazda 3 has a traditional, tried and true 6 speed manual and auto transmission (I think the manual is hatchback only).

Just saw one of these the other day in the wild - well, not really in the wild but at a mall- and it looked pretty nifty .

Buy no, drive sure. Wouldn’t turn my nose up to a free car from a friend or family member.

We had a 2023 telluride that wasn't bad but my wife really wanted the awd version, so we got a 2024 and we've already taken it in 3 times in a year for stuff.

We just bought a new Kia. I don’t give a shite about brand or look. We needed a cheap car that got good gas mileage. Reviews over the internet seemed to be in agreement that the new Forte was a good budget reliable car.

It’s been great so far. We’ve put 2k miles on it. Took it on a 10 hour road trip. Performed well. Neither of us commute to a job so I think it will be just fine for what we need to do. Basically errands and trips to visit people.

KIA? doublecutter I have a 2020 Santa Fe with the notorious 2.4 engine. My ex neighbor was a mechanic at the local Hyundai dealership. He told me to change oil every 3500 miles using a high quality full synthetic. Use only the factory OEM oil filter. Do a CRC intake valve cleaning every three oil changes, change oil immediately after the CRC cleaning. Change the PCV valve every 10 k miles. Burn only Top Tier gasoline.
quote:

When I bought it, it cost about $8k less than a comparable Honda CRV or Toyota Rav 4.
Meanwhile, had you instead bought the Civic, you could change the oil every 50k miles with shite brand oil, do none of the CRC shite, use kerosene for fuel and not have to sweat about it.

My security (not breaking down, not having a car with a shite motor) is worth a premium.

<——Four Honda automotive products owned, over 12 total years of ownership of them collectively, over 250k miles total on them and zero times have they not started or stopped on the side of the road.

The Civic is a subcom0act sedan, the Santa Fe is SUV.

And I wasn't going to bring this up in KIA/ Hyundai focused thread, but I know someone who has a couple year old Honda HRV still under warranty that has been in the shop several times because of a fuel injection problem. One shop visit it was there for two months because the parts they needed were on backorder. They swear they will never buy a Honda ever again. Your mileage may vary.

I wouldnt drive a Kia if it was free

I wouldn’t want to be seen in a Kia by anyone that knows me. I could never live that down.

So 50+ years of American Honda importing a wonderful product into the market and one person you know has a “problem”* with a Honda. That is a definite trend.

*The issue you reference may indeed be Honda’s fault, but it alternatively be the owner’s fault, we simply don’t know. Honda isn’t perfect.

In the US, for every former Honda automobile owner who swears they will “never buy another Honda” there are at least 20 former Hyundai/KIA car owners who would rather walk than have another Hyundai/KIA .

You put way too much stock in the approval of others. Southerners are some of the worst people at being class conscious.

Keeping up appearances is expensive and puts dumb people in the poor house.

Wife has KIA Telluride for three years now with zero issues (other than a few minor recalls). She loves it more than the Yukon she used to drive.
