Who’s the shittiest, most low down, dirty rotten scoundrel in your family that you once trusted?

My mom’s little brother was one of my idols as a kid. He used to babysit me in his dorm room, take me to college football games, taught me to play chess, and helped me out of a few sticky situations when I was in college.

But a couple years after my maw maw died, he revealed his true colors to me. We all thought he was the most successful of my mom and her six sibs, which he may be, but his actions have made me question everything I previously thought about him.

My grandparents left several hundred thousand dollars in a savings account and mutual funds. For some dumb reason, they didn’t leave a will. My Mawmaw trusted him, as the most successful, to execute her estate fairly and equally. Yet, he decided that his family needed all that money to themselves. And proceeded to pay off his home, buy some land, and new vehicles for his wife and kids on my grandparents life savings.

I grew up close to my grandparents and saw them at least once a month as a kid, and they lived till I was in my 30’s, so I knew them quite well. And I know nothing would have saddened them them more than to see what their son has done.

My mom is the type that never wants to rock the boat and always keep the peace, and wishes I would forgive him. He has told his sibs that he believes it was rightly his because he helped out my grandparents. I know he’s full of shite, and I have nothing but contempt for him.

That sucks. Have you talked to him about it? Did he financially support your grandparents financially the whole time?

It very well could be a violation of the estate. Did she challenge it and take him to court?

Nothing much. An uncle went down a political rabbit hole on Facebook but I was just disappointed, not upset.

There's probably a lot to this story yet to be revealed

Had a similar thing happen to my mom. Her uncle had a will and left her his house and my aunt some CDs worth about 250k.

Her uncle misspelled my mom’s name, and my aunt claimed it should all be hers. She railroaded my mom and my mom didn’t want to fight it. Created a huge rift in the family. I was super close to my cousin, we haven’t talked in years now since that occurred

Oldmanbeasley’s cousin Larry got sexually assaulted by a penguin while on a family trip. While it’s never right to victim blame, Larry had it coming. Completely ruined the trip.

That's really your Mom's issue to worry about. Not really something you should be overly concerned with. I mean I don't blame you for turning sour on him, but don't dwell on it.

Money does terrible things to families.

I've seen it firsthand.

No, but I’ve seen the bank statements. My grandparents both had pensions, SS, everything paid off, no debt, whatsoever. There’s really nothing he could say to justify this.

He told his sibs that he used some of his bonus checks to help them out before, but provided no proof of any transactions, and considering they were clearly well off, I’m not sure why they would have asked him for help.

They can’t. My Mawmaw put his name as her beneficiary on all her accounts.

My nephew snagged the neck before I could get to it @ Thanksgiving.

We got into pretty good in the backyard. Took about 45 minutes, but I showed him who's boss.

NGL, he's pretty tough for a 10 year old...

Does she live in LA? You can’t write out any offspring. So technically I don’t think he could take it even if she listed him

There are also several hundred acres of land involved, which I will inherit so long as he doesn’t find some way to swindle that, too. So I am concerned.

My cousin convinced some British folks that he met online that my uncle (his dad) was some type of huge POS father and human being. He then convinced them to allow him to move to England to live with them for awhile .

My uncle is an amazing person, the things said about him couldn't have been further from the truth. Well after, living with the british folks for a few months they started to suspect that my cousins story just wasnt quite adding up. They ended up contacting my uncle and telling him the things my cousin had said about him. To make matters worse, this was about the same time my uncle was diagnosed with cancer.

Ultimately, he apologized and admitted he had made everything up. Everyone has forgiven him but no one can forget something like that. I never really understood why he did it but it was certainly a very unexpected and strange thing to happen.

No, Texas. I’ve looked at the law, and there’s nothing to be done.

Maybe she wanted to leave it all to him.
