In my opinion, it's hard to say still if anything from either of the World Wars was a "mistake" or not. There hasn't been enough time to see the lasting impacts of those wars. There's still direct effects happening from them today so we shall see. It's hard to judge anything after really about 1850, imo as far as historical context and lasting impacts.

Tell that to the Jews. There are still less Jews today than there were in 1935.

Get the fricking Italians to do it. If they can’t sack Yugoslavia, then they are even more worthless as allies than I thought. Hitler didn’t let Mussolini in on Operation Barbarossa.
The Italians couldn't even beat Ethi-friggin-Opia! And you want them to beat an Eastern European country...sheeeeeit

Toss up between exporting slavery out of Africa and Rian Johnson directing TLJ.

Well obviously human atrocities were a mistake, I'm talking about tactical moves and the like that were being discussed in the thread.

Being the tech geek that I am...
1. IBM allowing Bill Gates to keep the rights to DOS AND license it to IBM competitors.
2. Xerox not seeing the potential of the PC GUI. (They developed it.)
Steve Jobs saw the Xerox Machine (called the ALTO I think) and took the GUI idea and ran with it.
By the time Xerox realized they fricked up, it was too late.

If England stays neutral in WWI then Germany wins quickly. Far fewer WWI casualties, no WWII, no Soviet Union. England and the world would certainly be better off. The only "winner" out of the disaster than we got was the US.

Burning of the Library of Alexandria. There's no telling how much that set humanity back, or where we'd be if the library hadn't been destroyed. Maybe we'd be hundreds of years more advanced than we are today. Maybe it had no effect at all. I consider it the "worst" decision because the true effects of it being destroyed on civilization can never be measured.

From an American point of view:
1. Jekyll Island
2. Gulf of Tonkin/Great Society
3. Invading Afghanistan/Iraq

For someone who likes to speak so authoritatively on issues of WWII, you sure seem to not understand some important context.
The Italians had been entangled in a bungled invasion of Greece since 1940. They struggled militarily in every single campaign they had been engaged in. They were, at that very moment, having their asses handed to them by the Greeks. They were horrendous allies and probably a more accurate "worst decision" was Germany not very tightly controlling the foreign policy decisions of their extremely disastrous southern neighbor and their jealous little Duce.
Hitler did not want to engage in the Balkan Campaign, they found it strategically necessary given the circumstances. It's also highly disputed as to what effect the invasion even had on the Barbarossa timeline. May 15 was a preliminary date that had to be reevaluated due to weather and logistical concerns anyhow. Not to mention that an extra 5 weeks guaranteed nothing in terms of victory. The Germans had miscalculated the Soviet strength from the outset. Other than you, it's not generally accepted that this decision was particularly meaningful or foolhardy.
