World Cup Soccer is stupid

I’ve never been a soccer fan and barely paid it attention. But I’m sitting in my hotel room in Mobile watching TV and I just noticed something on the scrawl on SEC channel while watching a replay of the Arky vs Mizzu football game….
Germany 4
Costa Rica 2
Logic would dictate that winning a game means you advance to the next round. But somehow Germany was eliminated BY WINNING, I’m guessing because ghey reasons since soccer is a ghey sport.
What sort of so-called sport holds it preeminent tournament where a team can win and the result is they’re eliminated?!?

Did you know that some NFL teams that win in the last week of the regular season don’t go to the playoffs

By winning they prevented Costa Rica from advancing…Germany had nothing to play for either way

This isn’t the regular season. There is no regular season in World Cup. The World Cup is a tournament is it not?

They weren't eliminated "BY WINNING". It's based on points you accumulate playing in 3 games. They had 1 win, 1 loss, 1 draw just like Spain. Spain had a bigger goal differential which is the tie breaker.

Their fate wasn’t determined by that one game. They are in a group with other teams. Whichever teams have the best records in that group advance.

It’s a tournament. 4 teams per group. There are points awarded based on the results of each game. Win=3, Tie=1, Loss=0. After the first round, the two teams with the most points in each group advance to the next round of the tournament.

Group play is like the “regular season”, yes.
