I played a lot of tennis when I was younger and had more energy. The light poles at one location where I played often had plastic and aluminum housings over the fixtures. The woodpeckers loved those things. We would stop playing and laugh our asses off every time they did it.

Fuuuuuck off. This drumming motherfricker has woken my wife and I up about 10 times now at dawn for over a month. All of the "non-lethal" solutions have been attempted. It isn't focusing on one area of the house. Hell, it goes after places that aren't even wood.
I'm not even a hunter. I don't like killing animals very much (although I do love meat). What I do like, and cherish, is sleep. This little demon needs to go.

I have a bird feeder and I promise you the kind of woodpecker in the picture eats birdseed.

Man, we have a light pole with lantern in front of our house and it goes after it too. In fact, I think that might be where I stalk and wait for it. Great hiding bushes about 20 ft away

She's the one trying to get rid of it and simultaneously feeding other birds constantly. She goes in her backyard and throws handfuls of birdseed into the woods.

There are some that are endangered and if you see one that is on the list(There are pictures of them somewhere)they will pay you some good money to tell them where it is.
Saw an article last year about it. I don`t remember who will pay you, but it was a nice chunk of change.

When I had that problem (cedar siding), I hung some of these near his favorite spots:
It worked. He left and never returned.
PS - I hung them by suspending them via string, so they blew in the breeze (as opposed to affixing them stationary to the side of the house).

I'll take some shooting practice to make sure the scope is lined up and not taking the shot unless he's on top of the metal housing and not near the glass.

Is it nesting in your house in the attic or in a gable vent?
If not, as mentioned before, put a food source out close to the area he frequents and he'll take to that, especially if it's plentiful and easier than drilling. It also might bring around more avian competition that could possibly run him off.

Nope. He is somewhere in the woods behind my place, but there is a fence and property line so I can't follow.
Food source such as?
My limited research has said it is "drumming" and not looking for food. It will peck against any and all surfaces and for short time.
But I'll tell my neighbor to try a food source if you give me a good one.
