re: Women who don't take the husbands last name?

My wife kept her last name only as it reads on her medical license (md) to not confuse all of the credentialing requirements, etc.
From a personal standpoint she took my last name as it reads on her drivers license.
It really makes no difference whatsoever UNTIL I'm called "Mr. Insert her last name here".

What reasons would those be?
You religious guys. I'm the one whose plan does not include global Armageddon, nor do I consider another human being to be an animal, so I'm positive that I'm not the bad guy in this situation. I don't even want you to die, buddy. I do mean that.
When someone belittles me, however, I belittle them right back, right back in the nuts. It's juvenile, but surprisingly, it's always been fun.
Good day, sir. I said good day sir.

I've quoted your immature remarks several times, im to lazy to do it again. Im not really religious and ultimately I could give a shite abut whit goes on in the Gaza Strip and in Israel.

Mom never legally changed her name but still "changed her name. 30 years after marriage the IRS told her to fix it by signing her original name 3 times on a piece of paper. She still goes by dads last name and always will. She just didn't want to deal with the legal process.

I'm not ragging on you, just curious if it is you and how are things going. If I recall you were having a hard time meeting women. Hope that's gotten better.
If it's you, I read one of the funniest posts I've ever read on TD thanks to you. Someone posted an "Is she an OT 10" thread and you replied about the woman. "I would destroy her", to which another poster replied, "Yeah right virgin. You'd come in ten seconds and then cry."
Oh man, I almost pissed myself. To whomever posted that comeback, thanks for the laugh.

I agree with the poster above who spoke of becoming one family unit.
I would never marry someone who would not take my last name because it is a signal of selfishness on her part. She and my children are a representation of me and should all be named accordingly.
For those of you who think that means I dominate my wife, you have no idea of what a man as a physical, emotional, financial and and spiritual leader of his home requires. It is the ultimate modern day version of self sacrifice by placing her needs first in every situation and my kids needs second. My needs come last.
If a woman wont give up her last name be protected for life by me, financially provided for by me, exclusively loved by me forever, and equally importantly served with kindness by me.......i would move on to someone else.

Wife didn't want to take my name at first. She did it only after she realized it meant a lot to me as far as raising a cohesive family unit with one identity.
To each their own. No right or wrong way to go about it, tbh. Just my personal druthers.

It's a byproduct of the feminist movement. I wouldn't like if she didn't take my last name.
My SO's mom kept her last name and now her daughter has a goofy hyphenated last name which has caused annoyances her whole life.

Lawd we need some theology and geometry up in this world. Womens need to be lashed about the loins in penance for not taking husbands last name. Its part of what's wrong with this country. Women, you can't have it all.

Yeah, one thing I absolutely did not want was the whole hyphenated name thing. Drew a hard line there.
It really wouldn't have worked well in our case anyway, as her maiden name already had an apostrophe in it

Posted by FalseProphet I actually really don't care if my future wife takes my name or not. As long as my kids have my name, I couldn't care less. I probably won't even bring it up.
You sound in love.

I wouldn't marry a girl who wouldn't take my name. There are plenty who would, and I married one. I don't give a frick what other people do.

bull fricking shite
ever heard ANYONE say that they couldn't find their doctor or Lawyer? Ever heard anyone who couldn't fathom a woman changing her name after she got married?
Did Hillary Diane Rodham not fulfill her dreams?
I actually don't give a flying frick if they want to keep their name...I care only if they are so stupid as to think it actually means something.

You live in Uptown.....which I guess is more douchey....but I have difficulty differentiating between douches and rednecks..........................................................................................................................................................but really, it was just a general comment directed towards dudes that are aghast that a woman wouldn't take their husbands name. It just seems to be 25 years behind the times. More pertinent would be the question of what gay man or lesbian takes his/ her partners name.
