some shoes to wear while she's in the kitchen.

Is she specifically wanting a watch? Has she mentioned liking any, or wanting a watch in particular? I ask because I never wear them, but girls seem to just love these kors watches that frankly are just.. Kinda ugly.

Personally, there's no way I'd wear a watch that was that expensive. Seriously, I'd not be happy with my husband/so if they bought that so I can't help you.

$300 watch $500 cash please

I'm glad my girlfriend (or my wife) doesn't want a $800 watch.

I agree. For that price I would inquire for something more specific that she's actually wanting. Like, perhaps she wants a drone? Or..maybe she's really had her eye on a nice coat but would never splurge and spend $400-$500 on it.
My husband has done that kind of thing--got me something I didn't even really want for what I thought was too much. Good thing it was something useful like an iPad otherwise I might have been kinda irritated.
PSS: get her one of those giant green cooking eggs. I want one. It's from the heart.
Eta: just get her a pretty watch for $200 or so. And then the rest cash with a note that says: let's go shopping!

There has never and will never be a time in my life where I would be cool spending $800 on a watch. Or having $800 spent on a watch for me. That's craziness. I have a clock on my phone. But, that's probably just me. I also don't get the $500 purses.
ETA: If you are serious enough to spend $800 on a watch, she really wants a ring and will be disappointed in a watch.

Same. Got into a Christmas tiff with my husband one year. I was excited about something he got me, but then my next question was wow, how much was this?!? I just wanted to know if he got a good deal. He took it offensively. So, my point here is that she may not even agree with what you spent, and perhaps that will honestly impede her from enjoying the gift.

Get yourself some shoes for the kitchen and an apron because she obviously wears the pants in the relationship. if you're spending that much on a gf now then you'll be miserable later on when your married with kids and she can't change a diaper because it's messy.

Yeah. Extravagance is not my thing. I could win the lottery tomorrow and I'll never spend $800 on a watch or $500 on a purse.

Well.
If I had unlimited money, and after charitable giving and such.. I could maybe allow myself a stupid purchase or two. But I'm not sure it would be a purse. I want a car so nice that they give me a badass purse just to thank me for my business.

Guess it really depends on the person. We don't know OP's income or lifestyle he leads. $800 may be the standard amount him and his gf usually spend on each other for gifts. Some people really love nice watches and maybe want one really nice quality watch. Nothing wrong with that. They see it as more than a timepiece...but similar to nice jewelry.

Apparently. I just don't get people who blow a lot of money on frivolous things. No matter how much money you have, that just seems like a waste of money to me.
Picc, I can understand a car. I'd buy a new van for the fam and a fancy car for me to ride all alone in from time to time.
ETA: If it's something she's always wanted, I can understand that. Everyone is allowed a few indulgences. But he doesn't even know what type to get, so that must not be the case here. Then it's just a waste of money.

Yea right Nurse. Everyone likes the same shite and no one wastes money on anything. These people complaining definitely get all of their clothes from goodwill, because wearing clothes from anywhere else is a waste of money, am I right?
