Actually the hips are the probably the worst spot to get hit in.
I know someone will argue and say heart but to hit the heart you gotta aim at the upper torso and so there is actually less of a chance of heart damage due to size of torso
But you have two major arteries in your hips and not to mention most hip shots result in ricochet bullets that go and do more damage

Very large artery if hit, you have like five minutes to clamp it, or you bleed out.

I don't disagree.
There was an article in a hunting magazine that interviewed a couple of shooters. In their mind they 100% thought they were shooting a deer. In one incident a grandfather was seconds away from shooting his grandson but decided to wait until the "deer" got closer. Turned out to be his grandson.
Another case, a guy killed his best friend. He was carrying his climbing stand on his back and he just knew it was the big buck they had been hunting. He sold all his guns and never hunted again.
Every case that a hunter shoots someone it's stupidity on the hunter. I've never just taken a shot at an animal.

Dumbasses like this is why I wear hunter orange or highway worker yellow while out walking during hunting season.

Even from 200yds, a deer profile is not that of a person, its awful target recognition, feel bad for her.

This is why gun owners get a bad rap.

While no charges have been filed against Jadlowski and he has been cooperating with investigators, the shooting was reported at 5:24 p.m., which is 40 minutes after sunset. It is against New York state law to hunt deer after sunset.
Jaime Billquist also said his wife was shot on their next-door neighbor's property and that Jadlowski didn't have permission to be hunting on the property.

Not to mention, how many fricking deer do you see out walking two labs?

What a shame. Hunter's Safety Courses would have helped, unless he slept through them.

Is the “high powered pistol” thing a typical reporter that knows nothing about guns?
Even if he had something like a Desert Eagle, 200 yards is world class with one pull.
Was he just goofing and took the unluckiest pot shot in history?

You hear these types of stories every now and then but what the frick is wrong with these people? The first rule of hunting is never shoot unless you are 100% what you’re shooting. If it’s too dark to tell with absolute certainty you let it walk
All of the rules assume the hunter has good eyesight, I was standing next to a open field with a friend that has been deer hunting for 40 years or so, and he saws look at that buck, I say where, and he says over there by the tree line, About 200 yards out is a fallen tree trunk leaning against a short sapling which to him looked like a deer. Shortly after that he was got his first ever pair of glasses. Often people do not realize what that their eyesight has declined until they go to renew their drivers license, or some other event makes it apparent.

Yes, I’m sure some idiot shooting at what he thought was a deer will get convicted of first degree murder.
Worst charge he can catch is involuntary manslaughter or an equivalent charge depending on the laws in his state.
