Let me drop some education on you. In a lot of third world countries, access to tampons and other products is nonexistent among lower class people. And menstruation stigma is a real thing-much worse than the ewww reaction on this thread. So when a girl hits puberty, she has to miss a lot of school or drop out altogether, and it's hard for a woman to get a job outside the home for the same reason.
Now, this particular act seems like a gross publicity stunt and I doubt it will advance the cause much if at all. It may even backfire. There are all kinds of things she could have done that would have helped materially. Like donate money, for instance. But having said that, the cause she was representing is a real thing.
