My friends dad rides in Bacchus and he's helping with things on the floats every weekend leading up to the big day.

The Krewes that own their own floats probably need more help with stuff like this.

Plus, these groups all have officers and obviously the officers are local and more involved.

They’re custom and handmade. I believe most, but not all, riders make their own. I make my own purses. There are local artisans who create and sell custom glittered throws (grails, purses, shoes, etc.

Yeah, I have several stay at home mom friends who spend all year making and selling shoes and purses for Muses and Nyx riders.

They go buy used purses and shoes at places like Goodwill and then glitter them up and sell them.

What do you mean by dump?

Everything that wasn’t taken off a float last night was being thrown in a dumpster today and floats would be taken back to the Westbank.

That’s an awesome side hustle for SAHMs! It probably makes sense for a lot of people to purchase them. They take a lot of time and money to make.

I’m a lawyer and I’m not particularly crafty but I enjoy the creative outlet. However, with the mess of glitter and glue on my dining room table right now, I’m sure my Nyx Mister wouldn’t be mad if I bought them in the future.

I can't get over this term

ETA: I would hate all the glitter in the house as well. We had enough of a mess making valentines for my daughter's class.

Wow. That’s impactful and it rings true. This city is most impressive in times of tragedy.

It’s what we call them! My fiancé is quite proud of his title. I appreciate him helping me carry purchased throws and load all that stuff. He drops me off at the pre-parade party and scoops me up to safety after the parade. It would be a much more physically taxing experience without his support.

Get out of here with your virtue signaling. The world doesn't revolve around this lady. What happened to her is obviously tragic and unfortunate, but that doesn't mean no one gets to be disappointed that the parade was basically entirely canceled.

Way too many bratty, self entitled millennials round these parts. Would be willing to be you’d feel different if the deceased was a family member or a friend. But stay hard on the OT thread bro.

The comeback when you don’t understand what “virtue signaling” means but you can tell you’ve been called out.
