From my experience Nyx is actually a more fun parade than Muses. Lately Muses has devolved into a lot of riders throwing less stuff in order to try and find their friends in the crowd to hand out shoes. Not saying this doesn't happen in Nyx too, but it seems more pronounced in Muses.

Edit: also Wednesday just feels more local, a lot more out-of-towners Thursday on.

When I rode the other day I did this a bunch of times not even thinking about it. I’m sure I’m in trouble

Ordered to dump

I was on Float 34. We weren’t ordered to dump. We learned that the parade would be re-routed / cancelled and chose to unload as much stuff as possible while we waited. I threw all my purses and my LED and themed throws. I still had two or three crawfish-sack sized bags of throws.

Since we do rent most of our floats, we are expected to unload anything we don’t throw. I had my fiancé meet me in the side of Tchop by the loading lot and I tossed my large bags of throws off the float to him. I have friends who ride who did leave their stuff and other riders had to carry their throws back to the hotel where they stayed downtown. Many women fly in from other places and don’t have the benefit of a local Nyx Mister to assist them.

Just to shed a little clarity on the logistics for those of us behind the float involved in this incident.

That's what I'm waiting to see l, as well as many of the officers for Endymion. We will see if they are selective in their enforcing of the ordinance.

For instance was watching WWL last night and they were interviewing some folks on a Druids float.

Guys they were interviewing had cut half their masks off (something I've done to some extent for quite some time in Endymion). Under the ordinance those folks and the krewe should be fined. However, I doubt they will.

This seems to defeat the purpose of Mardi Gras. Y’all just accept applications from people who aren’t local? Just basically if you have money and know somebody.

What do you think the purpose of Mardi Gras is?

Be part of a Krewe that is involved in the local community, participates in charity events, works on the floats and invests into the throws.

complaining

Some of us are complaining among ourselves. We realize that a tragedy occurred and that it’s selfish to publicly make this about our feelings. That being said, we do spend a lot of time and money to be part of The Greatest Free Show On Earth. Our float made it maybe 10 blocks from the start. It doesn’t feel fair.

The people who live here do still get involved with the local community. The out of towners help fund more activities and a bigger/better parade.

Are you thinking the out of town people don't do this?

I guess about 10 blocks. I had a lot of rum, so that estimate could be off.

Google shows address as 2828 Freret which is the projects. One site said she was Caucasian, but not sure if that is accurate.

3876 women and counting from all over the world. The purpose of Mardi Gras is to party. Nyx is an inclusive organization and very different from the old line krewes in a lot of ways.

The email sent out to us from the director of security said that the cops are supposedly very serious about it and are under pressure to ID anyone throwing the bags. $500 fine, removal from the float, and arrest.

Now whether it's a real threat or he's just making sure we all know what might happen is up for debate.

You’re telling me there is more money from out of towners? Doubtful. They just close membership off and run of mill locals aren’t invited. Instead have to go to some Kenner Krewe and parade there.

Well that just defeats the point in my opinion and half the fun.

I noticed way more officers on the route last night closer to the floats and I felt like they were specifically looking for throwing of full bags and plastic bags.

Both of the krewes I am in have received letters referencing the krewes last week not abiding by the new rules. But, it feels like they are threatening to enforce them this weekend; which is total bullshite. I am sure Endymion received the same letter.
