That and a happy traditional-type marriage don't seem very compatible to me. To what extent did he take the job in Denver to get away from an unhappy / dysfunctional marriage, versus to what extent did being away from his wife and kid the large majority of the time destroy his marriage / family? My guess is it's mostly the former, but probably some of both.
