I saw that as well. Was why I posted this. Its the opposite of a free capitalism market imo.

Also, as far as I was aware of dealerships always priced over MSRP

Yes of course. I am saying the difference now is there is no wiggle room. They are not taking less than a huge mark up.

Not all dealers are selling above MSRP. The majority are, but not all. The problem is, that is what the market is bearing right now. Used vehicles with substantial miles are worth more currently than they were brand new. This is an obvious bubble, and at some point will burst. Just a matter of time before there is way too much inventory and prices will plummet after the chip shortage fiasco is remedied.

I just went through this process.

Widen the search parameter. There are dealers not charging a “market adjustment.” Despite what anyone tells you, they are out there. If one of those dealers doesn’t have the car you want, negotiate on one a little better than the one you want. Try to get a written offer, either on paper or through text.

Take that offer to a dealer that has the one you want. That leverage allowed me to get a dealer markup from $6,000 to $250.

Best of luck to you. Zero fun negotiating for a car right now, because you basically have no leverage.

Look harder for the right dealership. The wife ordered a Tahoe in Houston that is being delivered this week at MSRP. You'll just have to wait 6-8 weeks for it (it may be longer now, we were in the 7 week time frame).

The salesman was great. He said pretty much all of their vehicles over the past 18 month have been sold this way aside from their trade-in inventory.

Dealerships are powerful entities and a lot are owned by corporations

Thank you. Any chance on the make and model? The car we wanted was a Kia teluride and I do not think it is possible to get a dealer down on those right now.

Baws will still buy the big trucks regardless of what they charge. Why not cash in on stupidity?

Why is there not more selling direct from the manufacturer like Tesla?

Because it would require completely changing their business model

You can get a better deal on a minivan than a Telluride. Same basic vehicle except the minivan is more functional.

Maybe you all could list the products you buy direct from manufacturer. Most products you buy come from a middle man.

Dealerships are evil, but only because we let them be that way. They are selling over MSRP, because people are buying over MSRP.

More blame is to be made against your fellow consumer and less with the dealerships making profit.

Exploiting consumers?

Charging $8k over MSRP because there are ……….less intellectual people that will pay it.

Why do you think you should be able to buy a vehicle for less than what others are willing to pay?

Not sure it will ever come back down with the devaluation of the Dollar

We are double digit YOY inflation. You'd be a fool to NOT expect vehicle prices to follow. But, that's only half the problem. You are not able to negotiate price on these vehicles due to the supply issues.

People are dumb if they are even remotely paying MSRP for anything.

I just bought a new Tacoma. Every car on the lot had a 7k addendum sticker. I told them I didn’t want to pay the mark up and they took it off. Guess they were desperate that day.

I've heard multiple stories like this where the vehicle isn't delivered because it gets sold out from under you. I hope it works out in this case.

Maybe, maybe not. Start off high and come down.

You were wise to ask them to take it off, some other schlep probably paid it.
