What is the shelf life on a MRE?

Non refridgerated, under 5 years.

Refrigerated, I ate a spaghetti pack that was older than I am. It wasn't bad.

left over from Hurricane Gustav.

I ate a beef one the other day when I got stranded in the woods. Wasn't bad, just tasted like baby food.

Don't military MREs have a metrick frickton of carbs? I thought I saw that since they are probably not eating much throughout the day and are expending a crapton of energy, so of course it's not a big deal. I can already see some of our larger citizens eating 2 or 3 MREs at meal time and approaching quarter ton status within a year.

They are balanced but those that stupidly follow low-carb diets for no particular medical condition would probably have an apoplectic fit over the carbs in an MRE.

Agree Chili Mac with a bottle of green tabasco was like hitting the lottery for me.

I survived off of crackers and cheese in Iraq. I lost thirty pounds but I'm alive... Oh yeah, beef stew ftw.
