NWS in Lake Charles just posted this on FB:
This is our personal plea. PLEASE do not focus only on the snow aspect of this event. Freezing rain and ice accumulation is far more dangerous and destructive than snow. Even just a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation can be disastrous. This time around the winds will be stronger than before so the ice could bring down power lines. Trees and power lines simply are not designed to handle the extra weight of ice. And this is not to mention the treacherous driving conditions that are expected.
Please take precautions and know what you will do to stay warm should you lose power tomorrow. We will likely see an extended period of temperatures near or below freezing (over 24 hours for many places).

There you go! I don't know all the subtle nuances of where shite begins & ends over this way. Too much time spent west of Baton Rouge.

The predicted high in Baton Rouge tomorrow is now 37 degrees. Does this change things ?

if it gets to 37, it will be for a VERY short period of time. remember that highs are the extreme high it will get in a given day, the overall average is much lower

It means roads won't be open until Thursday afternoon.
Eta: thought you meant Wednesday. The high will be in the upper 30s maybe. Then another hard freeze Wednesday night.
The high Tuesday won't be above freezing.

But it will have to be 33, 34, 35, and 36 to get there. Maybe this thing is being overblown and won't be as bad as predicted. At least I hope it isn't.

The iPhone weather was far more accurate than the local weather last Friday.
