What I mean is this:
They work on updates to the advisories (in this case, the winter storm watch to a winter storm warning) so one would think they work on updating the forecast at the same time. No?

However, they updated the watch to a warning but it seems as though it says it's going to be a little less severe than they originally thought.
huh?

Or the equivalent of expecting a pound of freezing ground beef to defrost quickly by placing it in the fridge. It just doesnt.

yes, forecasts are worked on throughout the day though, usually after model packages. And their stance on severity hasn't changed where did you see that?

Before, they were predicting 1/2 inch of freezing rain. Now this update says a quarter inch of freezing rain.

Looks like I'll have no problem getting form Prairieville to BR tomorrow morning. But should I be concerned with getting home around 5 pm tomorrow evening?

depends where you're at, although 1/4 to 1/2 is negligible, it'll be heavy in certain spots..

I didn't see it written anywhere, I'm just going by memory of what was previously forecasted. Am I not remembering correctly when I say before, the forecast was for up to a half-inch of freezing rain? Now it looks like a quarter-inch of freezing rain.

Even with the worst of it last week, Airline remained open, as did Burbank/Nicholson. I think it would take a worst case scenario for either of those to be closed at all.

Looks like they're saying more snow though, right?

As with tropical systems location is everything. You can get under a band and get 10+ inches of rain and a couples of miles in either direction. Nothing.
This is a similar situation. Experienced it during a Nor'easter this winter. House I was staying at got a foot of snow. Two miles to the south. 3inches.

Why has Lafourche declared a state of emergency? I know it's gonna be a little dicey, but I don't think it warranted a SOE

yes, they do it just in case they need aid. honestly every parish should declare one just to be safe

Snow
amounts of one to three inches with locally higher amounts are
possible especially in southwest Mississippi and the adjacent
Louisiana parishes. Elsewhere in the warned area... snow amounts
of near to less than one inch are expected.
North of Baton Rouge should receive about 3-4 inches of snow. South of Baton Rouge, apparently only about an inch or so. Keep in mind that whatever snow that falls will fall ontop of about a quarter-inch of freezing rain build-up and maybe even a quarter-inch of sleet build-up. If that happens, things will be beautiful to look at but we'll be at home for a couple days.

SOE are just about clearing the red tape for emergency crews and other services.

NOAA suggests that it takes 3 days of 50 degree air temps to melt 2-4 inches of snow. The 40 degree mark I was referring to is still a relevant mark though as it begins the thawing process because it refers to the ground temp for melting. So a combination of 50 degree air and 40 degree ground will slowly melt the ice/snow.
Remember too that snow is a great insulator as well.

which is why getting the band of ice, then snow on top is a very bad thing.
