There’s also an “unsafe vehicle” law on the books which I suppose could be used for your window tint if he saw them dark then you refuse to roll them up to be tested. If it was me would just write the tint ticket and explain myself in court though.

Too be honest I've often wondered about this.
I bought a truck in Texas from a ford dealership. Yes it was an F250. The windows had been legally tinted in Texas to 25%. Even had the Texas dotd emblem inside the tint.
I drove my new truck home to Louisiana and went to have my vehicle inspected to deem it legal in Louisiana. Passed inspection and was given an inspection sticker.
I still had my temp license plate from the Texas dealership when I was pulled over by a cop for illegally tinted windows.
He didn't tell me why he puled me over, he just asked me to roll my window up some. He immediately slapped a tint meter on the top edge of my window.
He said I was getting a ticket for illegal tint. I explained that I had just bought the truck at a Ford dealership in Texas and just the previous week had it inspected in Louisiana. He didn't care.
Now the way this meter works is that one side shines light through the glass and the part of the meter on the other side of the glass measures how much light passes through the glass. It has to be 40% in Louisiana.
Well he wrote me a ticket and I paid it.
What irks me is he placed the meter on my window without my consent. For the meter to work half of it has to be inside the glass, or from the inside of my vehicle.
So technically he had to enter my vehicle without consent or else he could not have taken the measurement.
I guess if it is a civil violation I don't see have he could have a probable cause that a crime has been committed. But who wants to hire an attorney to fight that battle.
it wouldn't be worth fighting afterwards, but if you wouldve just never rolled up the window i wonder how it wouldve played out

This is the most stupid law on the books.
So its illegal or unsafe to have windows that only blocks 25% of light but you can wear sunglasses as dark as you want.

I think it's pretty fricking stupid that there are laws effecting you when what you are doing is nothing dangerous to anyone else just to you. Some bs off the top of my head
*Bike helmet ticket (pedals/motor)
*Seatbelt tickets
*Music/exhaust loudness (I guess it can get out of hand)
Add *tint tickets to that list im sure there are many more but who gives a shite what tint someone has.

Pretty sure it's so cops can see in the car as much as anything.

I’ll never understand a cop worrying about dark window tint, especially if it’s not blacked out.
I’ve had illegal tint on all of my vehicles and haven’t gotten a ticket yet. I pick my nose while I drive, so I like it pretty dark

Louisiana is 40% for some dumbass reason. Texas allows 25%. Mississippi is 28%. Arkansas 25%.

Cop would never give me a ticket because a I got a thin blue line sticker

A warrant? No. All he needs is reasonable suspicion.
To enter your vehicle? I’m pretty sure that requires probable cause, not reasonable suspicion. Unless there’s a distinction between a “search” of your vehicle vs. just opening the door and rolling up a window.
Regardless, the entire premise of the OP’s argument is equatable to driving without a seatbelt, throwing it on before the cop gets to your window, and saying “how can you prove I wasn’t wearing my seatbelt?”

1. Your tint is legal. Roll the windows up and show.
2. Your tint is illegal. You’re trashy and you deserve a ticket.
I am amazed at how many downvotes this got.
I thought the OT was about law and order.

I'm not a fan of the tint law.
That being said, comparing it to sunglasses is dumb.
You can take the sunglasses off your face in changing light conditions.
I have 5% over factory. Probably measures close to 2-3%.
If pulling up to an unlit intersection at night, you basically have to roll the windows down to check cross traffic.
That's where it's unsafe. You'll have people that don't want to be cold, wet, hot, etc. by rolling their windows down and just assume it's clear.
I think the percentage overall should be lower, but some restrictions should remain. We already have the invisible trailer anti-baws tinting their windshield, imagine giving them more wiggle room.

Ah yes, who doesn't love the sound of straight pipes and distorted bass?

God I wish this were more strictly enforced.

Just another BS reason for cops to pull you over and give you a ticket.

No it isnt. They have to use a device to measure if your window is illegally tinted. They can definitely tell if your seat belt is on or off just looked at you.
a better comparison would be if a cop pulled you over for going 40 in a 35 but told you he didn't clock you

Here’s a phrase you’ get used to hearing in court for rolling your windows down...
“Through my training and experience I could tell the tint was outside of the legal limit. “
Just because you didn’t roll the window up for a meter to get put on it doesn’t mean a cop can’t tell by looking at it before hand that it’s illegal.

I believe louisiana law treats your car the same as your house. Are suggesting we have clear doors and make blinds, shutters and curtains illegal? After all it could be dangerous for an officer approaching my house.

I had 5% in California, how the car was. Was never a problem until I got pulled over

You might want to read the tint law:
LINK
A relevant portion most people don't know about:
ETA: So yes, not even counting the use of a tint meter a cop can tell you to roll your window up to check for the installer label and write you a ticket if it's missing.

(3) The person placing the material on the glazing surface shall affix the label to the lower right corner of the driver's side window.
