Makes me chuckle. My dad wouldn’t get near a window when it was lightning...hop in the shower, Hell to the no.

Personally, no fear.

3 things have to happen

1. Your house gets struck by lightning
2. Your water supply, specifically, has to get hit by the strike
3. You need to be in the shower

Better odds hitting the lotto numbers

Experts on the Weather Channel say your bathroom is one of the safest places to go during a hurricane or tornado. So why is it not a safe place during a thunderstorms?

I have an irrational fear of lightning though.
There is nothing irrational about fearing lightning when you're in the elements. Lightning will frick you up even if you're taking precautions, let alone

sit under a tree in the cart and let it pass

Terrible,

Idea is terrible.

Don't ever do that. Ever.

One evening while doing a property survey in a cedar and bodock thicket with an impossibly thick canopy covering our view of the sky, the first crack of thunder was when a lightning bolt struck a tree 40 yards from us. We boxed up and hauled arse and maybe 2 minutes later as I was carrying an $80,000 robotic total station and a pair of aluminum tripod legs, the 2nd flash went off right above us and I was what they call, iirc, electrically charged. Meaning, I didn't take a direct hit but I was charged by one of the smaller bolts coming off of it. Some are bigger than others, and it's theorized that's one reason why some people are struck worse than others.

My little charge hurt like hell and gave my shoulder 3rd degree burns where the aluminum legs were thrown over it and touching my body.

You need to be fearful of lightning, irrational if you have to be, because if you're a middle aged male who works and/or plays in the outdoors then it's not going to be the tornadoes that'll kill ya, it'll be that lightning bolt - by a long shot, too.

Yeah, but I know a guy that claims to have been struck by lightning over a landline phone one time.

I never heard about the shower thing but Mom wouldn't answer the telephone if there was a thunderstorm going on.

Having been on some bluffs and open spaces while camping/hiking during electrical storms has scarred me for life

Ain't this the truth. It only takes one time being stuck in the open with lightning to put the life-long fear of Jesus in to you. Been there a couple times and I'm not too big of a man to admit I am terrified of lighting because of it.

Similar to the post above, one of my experiences was while out surveying. Just outside of Lake Charles on the wide open prairie with no trees. One of those afternoon storms forms on top of me with no warning and starts throwing down bolts left and right. I want to say I was shitting myself, but my butthole was so puckered it wouldn't let anything out for days. You could feel how charged the air was and there was no where to go.

Another time was while hiking in an exposed area. We literally had to spread ourselves out and go down in to the lightning crouch you're supposed to do and wait it out. Longest 30 minutes of my life.

I’ve heard of this before but never thought much of it. Seems dumb and tbh, if I die from something so flukey then it was just my time to go.

I do recall being on an old landline during a thunderstorm and seeing blue sparks shoot out of the part you hold to your ear. That shite freaked me out.

My mother doesn't even want to be on her cell phone during a storm.
