We don't throw away our money and buy each other cards. In our relationship I bought 2 cards, first dating anniversary, wedding day.

I don't think so and if it does, it will not be anytime soon. Greeting cards are more personable than an e-card. If someone took the time to go purchase a card and mail it to you, it means a lot more.
WIth that said, it has to be a lucrative business.
What do yall think? How much does it cost a card company to make a card they sell for $5? I would think less than $1 per card. Thats a nice profit margin.

Big Card has carved out numerous 'holidays' to keep itself afloat and now it keeps raising prices
I kinda felt like either that whole industry had jumped the shark, or society was doomed, when I saw in Wal-Mart back in the '90s or early 2000s that they had a setup where you could buy a blank card and they had a printer that would print your own message on it and they would charge you for the card and for the inscription. Somehow they had managed (or thought they could manage) to actually charge people to write their own fricking cards. At that point, I realized that either the industry was just completely delusional or, if not, people were so far beyond salvageable that society would crumble in the next few decades anyway.

"Hallmark holiday" is a term used predominantly in the United States to describe a holiday that is perceived to exist primarily for commercial purposes, rather than to commemorate a traditionally or historically significant event. The name comes from Hallmark Cards, a privately owned American company, that benefits from such manufactured events through sales of greeting cards and other items. Holidays that have been referred to as "Hallmark holidays" include Grandparents Day, Sweetest Day, Boss's Day, and Secretary's Day. Some people also consider St. Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and Father's Day to be such days.[1]

Almost $5 for some card with empty platitudes?

If we all do our part, then yes we can make it happen.

90% are printed in China. Before I read the card I turn it over to see where it is made, if China I put it back on the rack!

Nowadays most people take 5 seconds to leave a generic message on Facebook.
Spending $5 + 50¢ for a stamp is a pretty small price to separate yourself from the masses.

Cards are pretty stupid. I think any of the cards I have gotten for many years now, I just glance at them and then they end up in the trash
