when you've got eyewitnesses and forensic experts, the lead detective generally just guides the process and will only have a lengthy direct exam if he also got a confession or collected a specific piece of evidence

I had a rape trial a couple months back where the lead detective testified on direct for about 15 minutes and the defense didnt even cross him because the detective mainly just told other officers what to look for and sent stuff off to the crime labs

ETA:

now fuller will ask him all this shite he cant testify to because he didnt personally handle it and he will do this in an effort to paint the lead detective as inept or crooked

JF: If a person makes a claim of self-defense, tell the jury how you investigate that.

BB: Talk to all witnesses, look at video, etc.

No 911 calls from O'Neal or Hayes after check of dispatch, operators. Fuller, early on, said there were. That's the risk of talking early.

Wonder if he called a non-911 number for the NOPD instead of 911. I'm sure if he did there will be cell phone records indicating the call otherwise that's the stupidity of speaking before all the facts come in to the media.

J. Fuller has Det. Brueggeman say Cardell Hayes, Kevin O'Neal remained on scene; but Richard 'Mad Dog' Hernandez left the scene.

Wow Fuller got the detective to call Hernandez "Mad Dog" in front of the jury. Nice subliminal message to jurors.

J. Fuller has Brueggeman reiterate that Richard Hernandez retained a criminal defense attorney before speaking with police.

Brueggeman: Jonathan Whipple has tattoos everywhere.

Ramon Antonio Vargas ?@RVargasAdvocate 1m1 minute ago
Recall, O'Neal earlier testified at least one of the guys assailing him had tattoos.

Ramon Antonio Vargas ?@RVargasAdvocate 44s44 seconds ago
Brueggeman: I had information Richard Hernandez took off his shirt and was 'acting a fool' on the scene before the shooting.

When Fuller does a cross, the witness is virtually irrelevant. Fuller is the one testifying, witness just there to agree w/ him.

Ramon Antonio Vargas ?@RVargasAdvocate 2m2 minutes ago
J. Fuller has Brueggeman say that the PD had not interviewed Abby Levray, Justin Ross before Hayes had been indicted.

Ramon Antonio Vargas ?@RVargasAdvocate 1m1 minute ago
J. Fuller asks Brueggeman when the PD got video of Billy Ceravolo at the Windsor Court, showing him away from the scene of ...

Ramon Antonio Vargas ?@RVargasAdvocate 1m1 minute ago
... Smith's killing.

Ramon Antonio Vargas ?@RVargasAdvocate 58s59 seconds ago
J. Fuller: Y'all were getting videos to protect Billy Ceravolo instead of getting video that could be important to a self-defense claim.

Fuller shouting, accuses Brueggeman of getting vids first o protect Billy Ceravolo, instead of probing Hayes' self-defense claim.

Caresse Jackman ?@CaresseJ 2m2 minutes ago
Fuller: (shout) SO YA'LL ARE OUT GETTING VIDEO TO PROTECT BILLY CEREVELO?
det: No, we wanted to make sure Cerevelo was playing by the rules.
