You can drop it tomorrow. Banks are closed til Tuesday. Tomorrow, Sunday, Monday... All the same.
Anyway, most everything should be open on Tuesday. The only things that are usually closed on the week following the 4th are BBQ restaurants and firework stands.
Edit. I am not really sure what you're wanting to know. Have an upvote.

If they will likely be open? Tomorrow for half a day would be nice.
I think on th 5th my rent is considered 'late'

Most places, that are typicy open on Saturday should be open tomorrow, per usual, including banks, at least until noon.
I would drop my rent check off at 11:55am. Then it's not late, but can't be deposited until Tuesday.
But yeah, I would imagine that the landlord would be open Tuesday, per usual. Also, anything due on or by the 5th, but paid on Tuesday shouldn't be considered late with it being a 3 day weekend between the 1st and 5th. But you could pay it tomorrow (today technically), just to be safe, and it would be the same as paying it Tuesday as far as your account is concerned.

If it's due on the 5th, why would the 5th be considered late?

Are you serious? Just put it in the lease office's box tomorrow. Damn.

Why do you wait to pay it until the very last minute?

If you pay early, you're giving them a no-interest loan. It's the principle of the thing.

frick me running. Have you ever paid rent, by check, and it was IMMEDIATELY deposited? You think one of the employees, runs to the bank every single time a rent check comes in? Maybe they go deposit it at night. But if you pay on the 1st of the month as compared to the 3rd, 4th or 5th, what are you really losing/them gaining?

Here's a little tip, mail your check in early but don't date it until the 4th or 5th. Your landlord has your money but they can't have it deposited until you want, win win. Its what I tell all my tenants to do.

My company is pretty strict and rent is late on the 4th but we are taking it until 9am on the 5th. If we are doing that I bet your place is too.
We have no drop boxes or mail slots.
