They do that on state and federal land around me. I have never checked into it but I will bet a coca cola the contracts to do this are very lucrative. They are also probably heavily lobbied for so the contractors can make even more money. I am certain its effective but I would bet 2 coca colas that the people doing it have no intention of making any dent in a resource that is self producing and lucrative to "control".

In my experience they are not great but not bad. Depends on what they have been eating and how they are handled in the field and in the kitchen. That said they make very good sausage. They can also be trapped, penned and fed and they will, in a few months, be what they actually are, domesticated pigs. They are meaner than shite but all pigs are. I know a guy who has about 600 acres and he does this with 8-10 a year and they are no different than any domesticated pig.

I posted an article in this thread from Texas Monthly about the feral hog epidemic. It touched on the fact that hog hunters were against ridding Texas of hogs. However, the hog hunters are hunting a relatively small area, compared to the rest of the state. Most extermination efforts will have little to do with hunters.
I don't think anyone expects the hogs to be totally exterminated. I think most people would be happy with just reducing the numbers, or even just stopping the growth - which even that seems impossible.

I’d say tenant still hunters are ok with having something extra to shoot at and recoup their corn and lease money outlay.l as well as more hunting opportunity outside of deer season.

I love to hunt wild hogs. I usually hunt them in Arkansas but would also enjoy a hunting trip to Louisiana.

This. When I started Cancer treatments, I was told, hunt and eat all the wild game you want. Please don't handle, clean, or eat wild hogs, too much chance for infection. Now I shoot and let them feed the Buzzards. Pigs destroyed three of my feeders in the last couple of weeks. Hate the Bastards!

I think the first thing in Louisiana that needs to be done is open all WMAs and other state and federal lands up to year round hog hunting.

A a$$hole in Grant parish bought a bunch of them at a sale barn and turned them loose on his property but he didn’t have a fence anywhere close to being able to keep them contained.Now they’re all over the place.
Also heard about a farmer not far from me that bought some and turned them loose because he thought it would be cool to have them to hunt.Was told he is very much sorry he did that.
As far as eating they are very good but I only eat those I kill in the winter that are eating acorns,pecans and deer corn.Boars are good if you drop them in their tracks.I’m sure one that has been caught by dogs would be nasty.
