That is seriously fricked up. Our hospital gives us hours in an extended illness bank(EIB). Normally we can only use it for FMLA approved events. HR just said if we have to be out for COVID related illness/quarantine we can start using directly from our EIB and don't need FMLA approval and don't have to use any of our regular sick time or our PTO from the hospital.

Which hospital do you work for!

It’s nice not having to worry about it

For hourly workers they used to have a points system with your attendance. If you called out sick you got so many points. Get too many points and you go up the chain of disciplinary action (verbal, written, all the way up to being terminated)

HR also got rid of that. Hopefully that is a permanent measure cause HCWs should never feel like they are being punished by staying home when they are sick.

I think they started the points things cause of frick ups that work there that abuse the system.

You know...there is always one on each floor that calls out all the damn time and you know damn well they are NOT sick. Leaving their coworkers in a bind. I once worked with a nurse...if she knew it was her turn to be floated to another floor...she would just call off sick that night.

I’ve noticed in my journey through healthcare that most professions are very tribal but not nursing. I see them throw each other under the bus or hang them out to try far more than is normal

Just depends on the floor I guess.

I'm salary now so the points thing doesn't apply to me. I haven't had to clock in for 3 years now and it's great. Gave me a lot of flexibility to be able to go with my dad to all his medical appointments and for all the appointments I had when I was pursuing fertility treatments.

Right now....maybe not so great cause if I'm working a bunch cause of all this...no extra pay.

It’s probably the common cold or flu. They will claim it to be Coronavirus to help boost the numbers up.

I’ll pray for her and your family. I truly hope she gets through this. I’m sure she’ll be ok!

Where are you in LA? I'm sure you don't want to name her employer, but this is ridiculous. Is she a travel nurse, maybe?

I saw my niece (no pics) on Saturday and she told me she was offered big bucks to transfer to another hospital in her system in NO. She said, and I have no way of verifying this, that they were offering a one time $5,000 bonus, plus a hourly bump. She doesn't want to do it because she's in a non-COVID unit with minimal potential for getting exposed, but the money is tempting and she recognizes the need for staffing.

After your wife gets well, maybe she needs to look around at other offers. This isn't ending any time soon.

Not only does she not get any preferential treatment for testing she does not get sick pay if she is sick. Also found out today her employer is cutting hazard pay

Sounds like when the dust settles, she needs to tell the employer to shove it up his arse. I'm sure her services would be in demand and appreciated elsewhere.

No official work response was we don’t know what you do outside of work. We can’t be sure you were exposed here

Really? Working a fricking C19 ICU unit? And if one of my contractors gets it one evening drinking a beer at gas station after work and comes down with fever the next day, I’m hung with an OSHA recordable.

It’s legit

My wife (no pics) is a RN at an outpatient surgery center.

Local ICU is offering $10K sign on bonus, hourly pay bump, & 2 year commitment.

She doesn’t want to put our kids at risk and we are fine financially but the pay bump is enticing.
