The baseball manager walks out into the middle of the infield, the field of play, to talk to the pitcher and infield. Sometimes he takes the ball from the pitcher and hands it to the pitcher coming in from the bullpen.
Because he is stepping out into the middle of the field of play, to take the ball from one player and give it to another, it is only appropriate for him to wear a uniform.
In no other sport does the manager handle the piece of equipment. NTTAWWT.
