They are not recommending it because there are too many unknown factors at this time. I personally trust my doctor and know she is genuinely concerned about my well-being and that of any potential unborn children. She isn't just trying to prevent being sued.

Yeah, I went to Costa Rica last fall and had to jimmy up for six months
Was a trip o Costa Rica worth having to wear a condom for 6 months?
Personally I'd say no

Some people claim Zika is caused by pesticides and not mosquitoes but do you want to risk your kid's life on that? It's a rough call.
Some claim vaccines cause autism or to the Earth is flat. But they would be stupid.
Who claims zika is caused by pesticides and not mosquitos? I've never heard that one.

Get some spray if you are that concerned. We went there last spring, didn't see a mosquito the whole time. It's badass

Wear extra repellent. It will probably be okay.
I wouldn't go, but that's just me.

Every time I apply a repel land I wonder how much of it is absorbed thru the skin.
I would say a pretty good bit...I always feel like I have a sunburn a few minutes after I apply it.

She never mentioned anything to me about being worried about the zika virus.
Seriously, is that still a concern? If you can't find any recent articles on it then I wouldn't be concerned.

Not worth the risk

My wife and I were scheduled to go to Jamaica last year. We cancelled the trip after she got pregnant. Talked to a few docs and friends in the medical community. All had feedback of a resounding no. I was surprised actually. Thought it was overkill until I talked to them and read up a bit. Not worth it.

This is directly from CDC website. While Zika isn't getting as much media attention as 2016...it still can be a concern for pregnant women and couples trying to get pregnant.

CDC basically says to avoid Zika areas if at all possible if you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant. And reminds people that Zika can be sexually transmitted.
Zika didn't just magically go away.

To be fair none of the cases in Louisiana were transmitted IN Louisiana.

After reading this, I realize how stupid my post was..
I pretty much told him "its not in the news anymore so it will be fine", but I guess it was a thing way before the Olympics was held in Rio and like you said, it didn't just go away..

It just isn't getting all the media attention as it was then.
If you are not pregnant or trying to get pregnant anytime soon...not really a big concern. I'm certainly not saying for every person to cancel their trip to Zika areas.

This is how oblivious I am to it, but is there a risk only if you are trying to get pregnant? Or is a threat to women who are pregnant as well?
