You should probably cancel. I personally don't think a trip to Mexico is worth the risk. My wife and I are going to the Bahamas next week. We'll take a Zika test in July before we start trying.

Drink about 8 ounces of Insect repellent the day of your flight. The deet will gas off through your skin for at least 7 days. And don't forget sunscreen.

Postpone your plans post 6 months of arrival after your vacation.

Men can harbor the virus and pass to the woman.

It's not that big of a deal though.

I can't find any recent articles about the virus in the Cancun area.

Per CDC most of Mexico falls under Zika restrictions.

Unless you are above 6500 feet(which you will not be where you are going).

If you are trying to actively get pregnant....I would not go on this trip. Because they don't know exactly what causes the birth defects to show up in some pregnant women with Zika and not others....just not worth the risk.

Is a vacation worth it if you are worrying about Zika the whole time?

Also....if you just did an IUI, you've already invested time and money into it. Your wife has gone through all the painful tests for it. Taken the meds with the crappy side effects. Why risk all of that for a beach vacation?

You could get in a airplane accident, crash your car on way to airport, cartel could abduct you, could get struck by lightning, etc. Would bet one of those happens first. I seriously think our mosquitos are way worse here... Ridiculous the stuff people worry about.

So the life of your unborn child isn't worth worrying about?

These are legitimate concerns. Could you ever forgive yourself if you went on a vacation....and it was the reason why your child was born with a devastating birth defect?

Agreed...but I find it amusing that because of fear of mosquitoes, someone chooses to stay in LA, lol. (assuming you live here)

I have kids, I get the concern, but you can't live in a bubble. I've been to these "resorts" you're nuts if you don't think these places are treated and sprayed. They maintain a grounds crew. People getting swarmed by skeeters and gnats isn't good for business. Their clientele is Americans. He's not visiting the alleys and streets of a major metripolitian or a swamp... get real, way worse things in the world to worry with.

Eta: of course physicians are recommending not going. They for one don't want to be sued, have you seen the scum bag attorneys in this state? Nor do they need pissed off clients.

The species that carries Zika doesn't live north of Miami.

What happens if you leave the resort? You can't 100% prevent the mosquitos.

Again...it's just a vacation. You can choose where you vacation at. Why choose a place with those potential risks? Not when there are soooo many other places you could go that doesn't have the Zika risk?

As a woman that is currently trying to get pregnant...I personally would not go to any of those places. Those places can wait imo. They aren't going anywhere...I can always visit later when I'm not pregnant or trying to get pregnant. I've cared for children with those birth defects....it's heartbreaking. I could never live with myself if I decided to go to Mexico for fun...and I got Zika and it affected my unborn child.
