One of my best days ever was the day me and two friends took acid and went to Astroworld.

I thought I was going to die on the Sky Screamer.

All theme parks are like that. Its when you stop getting out of towners.

Most amusement parks sell season passes for practically the same price as a 1 day pass

One of the reasons they opted to close it down was b/c it got to be too thuggish not to mention it didn't hold the same hype as it did when we were younger so they just didn't have the numbers they needed to keep it operational.

Was a cool place though. RIP Astroworld

Astroworld became the daycare for inner city kids. Parents could buy a season pass and the kids would spend all summer there. Park made no money.

It closed because it became a babysitter for the trash inside the loop.

This. A season pass was under $100. way cheaper than daycare or babysitters. drop them off and be on your way. Then it became extremely gross and dirty. Chewed gum everywhere and foul stenches.

I'll always miss the double loop Texas Tornado. And Greased Lightning - great rides.

It wouldn't surprise me if they make more from parking there for the rodeo than they did when the park was running

I also remember having a lot of gang/ crime issues in the last couple years. I believe there was a stabbing a couple weeks before it closed

Even though Disney has its fair share of trash, I'll never complain about the price because at least I don't have to deal with gang crap. Old ladies shinning me in rascals? Ok, but it's better than getting mugged on It's a Small World.

Not sure why people are blaming ITL or the "inner city." You need to venture into the suburbs South and Southwest of the Loop.

Other than that, the comments about ticket prices and becoming a daycare are spot on. It was an expensive one day outing for a family, but a relatively cheap Summer-long daycare for unsupervised kids from the hood.

It had gotten so sketchy by the time I was in high school in the 90's that the mispronunciation of "As-tuh-whirl" entered common parlance.
