Uh, it probably doesn’t help, children are incredibly expensive.

Nobody should get married till at least 25 preferably longer. No kids before 30. That would cut down on the divorce rate and single parent problems we see today.

The only reason it would cut down those rates is because people would have less time to actually have kids and get divorced. Forcing people who make bad decisions to wait to make those bad decisions doesn't actually fix the problem.

There are practical economic reasons having kids earlier is actually better. I don't deny your premise that kids are expensive, but they're expensive at any age.

Making bad decisions, like having an unexpected kid, means you're a bad decision maker. The kid isn't the reason you're poor, it's the bad decision making altogether. If you're a good decision maker, and you have a child young that you actually planned, then you'll be fine down the road.
Um, no. Ever heard the expression shite happens? We all do stupid stuff. Win some, lose some. That doesn't make someone a bad decision maker just because they had an unplanned child.

I’m 26 and the SO and I have agreed not to start having kids until 32/33. Going to fully enjoy all my time while I’m young to travel and knock things off the bucket list before all my money goes to raising kids. Plus, still having kids at home in your late 40’s and 50’s will keep you young.

I was 28 when oldest was born & 33 when youngest was born. So I have a 16 year old at 49 and I'm telling you I'm way too f'n old for the bullshite that teenagers bring home every day.

Plus it is weird being the old parents at her school events. We are older than some of the kids grandparents.

That is what some definitely don't realize. The drama for the parent increases the older they are when their kids are teens.

You're misunderstanding, and perhaps I wasn't clear enough.

The statistics on those who have kids young aren't pretty, but it doesn't mean the entire group is poor. What it means is the majority are simply bad decision makers altogether. A good, responsible decision maker that has a child early will still be fine.

If you're doomed by young parenthood, you'd very likely be doomed being childless too.

Where do you live where there are several under 49 grandparents in the class?

It seems like you don’t understand the burden a child puts on a young unestablished couple, or more likely, a single woman.

Does that really seem farfetched? People don't have kids in their early 20s where you live?

No, they do. I just don't see a lot of people under 50 at Grandparents Day anymore
