Why when you open the windows to your house do all your fabrics smell like "outside"?

Does anybody else know what I'm talking about? If you keep the windows open for a bit and then close them, your house smells like a smell I can't explain.
It doesn't necessarily stink, but it doesn't smell good either. It's just a distinct smell.
I did a little google searching and it seems like a mystery... apparently some people can smell it and many people can't.

Because you are letting the outside in.

Is it the same scent you get when you hang things on a clothesline?
If so, it smells like pepper to me, and I hate it!

When the outside becomes the inside, then the inside smells like the outside. That's just math.

When I was a kid our clothes were hung outside to dry and I never noticed a smell. Now it wouldn't be able to handle it.

Maybe you should move your trailer further away from the Bogalusa paper mill.

I don't get what you're asking. Are you wondering what smells are? It's essentially molecules from a larger mass.
If you leave a window open some of those molecules from the outside will end up inside.

what does that even mean?
Women hate pepper, or women have a more sensitive sense of smell? Or damn women always be bitchin'?

if I open windows around the house this time of the year my house doesn't smell any different but everything will be yellow.

I'm struggling to understand your issue. If outside smells different than inside, letting outside in will change the smell of inside, including things that absorb smells, like fabric.

back when I lived on a farm as a kid, we hung up lots of clothes outside. they always smelled weird to me.
