They are. They work a contract for X number of days, with built in weather days and teacher work days. If more days are canceled than are allotted, they are required to make those days up.

Exactly. They had days to use and it was going to be a little windy today.

I guess they didn't want to be letting kids out during severe storms

Is it impossible to hold off doing so in specific areas where that may be an issue at the specific time when you may be "letting kids out," such that it is better to just wholesale cancel all schools in vast swath of like 4-5 whole states?

Nope. Was never supposed to be as bad in S. LA as the parts getting torn up in MS and AL.

Suing who? Nobody seems to be able to point to all this vast litigation against schools for being open during the mere possibility that it might storm some.

When have parents sued over the weather?

It’s not mandatory that you have to send you kid to school today. This is about the teachers not “feeling safe”

Teachers complain about how much they make and I used to agree with them

But after covid and how easily they cancel school now they are essentially telling the world that their jobs aren’t really that important.

Not a good way to get a raise

Teachers have zero decision in whether school will be open, closed or half day. You are a dumb arse if you actually think that.

They closed because it will forecasted to be really shitty weather and so they chose to protect the kids.

The same people bitching about the half day are the same ones that would be throwing a fit while little Timmy rode the bus through a tornado....

Its a roll of the dice and I truly dont get the anger for airing on the side of caution.

But we needs the STEM equipment for the chilrens in public schools so dey can get de educations
dey need to make it in life.

Here’s a lesson for them: you still need to go to work (or school) even when the weather is bad.

When they master that lesson, we can talk.

You want kids on buses during this?

The warning zone is like a giant dick.

They were expecting tornadic weather and potentially dangerous storms around the times buses would normally be dropping kids off after school.

In muh day we walked to school in an F5 tornado, a blizzard, and forest fires. And they were 25 miles each way

People who think teachers in Louisiana call the shots are comical.... You really give too much power to the teachers. Even the unions in Louisiana are pathetic with no real power
