Why were old-school McDonald's playgrounds so shitty?

I remember one time I was too husky and got stuck in Officer Hamburgers upstairs jail. Grimace's cage was just fricking frightening and crazy looking. My older brother one time broke his collarbone on the sold metal rocking horse thing.
Not everything about the old days definitely wasn't better. DAMN old-school McDonalds playgrounds is what I say. Those places were sketchy!

That playground was awesome. Ours had an apple pie tree inside, and I thought it was the neatest thing ever.

We had a garage sale last weekend and a Mexican family came by with mom, dad, and three boys. The middle boy was probably 9 and pushing 300. Best part? He had a shirt on that read “McDonalds Crew”
