I would of pulled him out the car and gave him a few elbows to the head. Accident related in the report**

Obviously the answer is to stop working on this and settle for the fact that technology has never improved.

this is the tipping point, friends.

driver ASSISTED technology vs FAKE GOD OF ROBOT CARS that encourage drivers to take a nap in the backseat and leave the driving to HAL
You just admitted it's the driver's fault without realizing it.

what?? i was the biggest champion in that other dumb thread for driver assisted technologies, not robot cars that CREATE DRIVER DISTRACTION.

are you really this dense or just like pretending you don't get it?

No, this is where some people realize we can barely make anything that doesn't have a glitch in it. So let's not quite jump to the point of thinking cars will be driving themselves by 2020.

I wonder if horse and buggy guys made a similar argument when cars first started showing up?

Read this again...very slowly:

so thats what happened when the tesla ran rull speed into a tractor trailer and decaptiated the driver?

was that 'help'?

what about the poor woman crossing 4 lanes of traffic and an uber killing machine going 38mph couldn't avoid hitting her.

how about the tesla that just fricked that firetruck in the arse today?

Yeah, a girl here did the same thing (not into the back of a fire truck) because she was texting while driving. The computer glitch in the car can be fixed, the girl still has free will to text and drive

The most amazing part of this is that these are the ONLY 3 accidents involving cars in the last few years!!!!

Bingo!!!

The best part, that most of the anti-Tesla/autonomous car guys seem to miss, is that in the case of the lady with the bike who was hit...looking at the video, no one would really question the driver if it weren't a self-driving car. Virtually everyone would think, "yea, she kinda came out of nowhere, he's not at fault here."

But we do question why the self-driving car did not see that, which is a fair question.

But somehow reading those 2 statements, the light bulb isn't quite going off for the detractors.

Well we don't have to waste taxpayer money on trials and incarcerations.

except that narrative has been completely blown up by people who actually noted:

- tons more lighting in that area
- woman was slow walking a bike across 4 unhindered-view lanes of traffic
- robot car never slowed, braked or took evasive action. KILL ALL HUMANS
- driver was nodding off because she was told to sit in the car to satisfy the dumb old bureaucrat regulators.

My favorite part of CAD's rants on this topic is his sig quote, which was me just posting an actual fact based on actual data that he seemed to think was super funny and out there and sig worthy.

You are creating a straw man that having human drivers would save lives in total. Human drivers are what they are, they are never getting better.

Driverless cars, setting aside timelines, have a huge likelihood to save lives. This won’t be the first or last technology that ends up killing people as it is developed and refined.

See for instance air travel. Another one will be space travel and mining.

That's a bingo.

This technology is already arguably safer than human drivers and in the next 10, 20, 50 years it will undoubtedly be MUCH safer than human drivers as the tech progresses, and as you said, humans are what they are, we're not going to get much better at this driving thing.
