You don't have to, because you homeschool now.

If my parents kept me in the middle of nowhere and never exposed me to this hell we live in, I would be pretty damn happy.

I hate this idiotic hate filled political climate we live in now. You can't get away from it.

another good reason is being able to travel and do things as a family whenever you want.

This is a big thing we're excited about. My wife travels a good bit and a lot of of it was usually dictated by if we could justify taking our daughter out of school. No longer an issue.

There are really good programs out there these days to help homeschool families.

Lot's of people do co-ops, kind of a homeschool school. it's intimidating if you're starting off and trying to do it all on your own. There are so many resources out there to make life a lot easier.

I've noticed a distinct change in the socialization skills of both my nephews since they stopped being home-schooled two years ago and started going to private school. They both seem to have matured socially very much in a short amount of time.

Yep, gotta be on your toes when the kids around you eat tide-pod and snort condoms.

Most of the people who homeschool here are granola types. They do a lot of cooperative stuff, they do hikes with outdoor education, trips to museums, arts and such. It certainly seems to work for them.

Why on earth would any person want to send his child to a public government indoctrination center?

They are out there. But having a good support system is really helpful.

The group around here have activities almost every friday that a different family can host each time. Kick ball, make your own boat out of cardboard and take it to the creek and have races, today they had a build your own marble maze thing which my boys loved.

One of the ladies hosts a sign language class every Thursday. My daughter likes it a lot, but so many people signed up that they had to move it to the ladies house to up at the church, which makes it harder for my wife to wrangle the little ones. But anyways, tons of stuff to do rather than just sitting down at the kitchen table and doing lessons.

My neighbors down the street did it. 7 kids. All are high functioning very socialized individuals. More so than probably 98% of the idiots on the OT. They traveled often and seem to have a great family life.

Studies have been done... (I do not have links... do your own homework!) that show homeschooling is a highly effective way to educate your kids when done properly. As far as the harming their ability to socialize thinking... This has proven to be false also.

I will add this which is nothing more than my opinion.. Regarding the Socializing question, if the parents homeschooling the kids are socially awkward... the kids will be to...

You have to be intentional about it. Homeschool kids can still participate in school sports. Of course sheltered kids are going to be socially awkward.

I generally like the granola types, they are out of the box thinkers.

Its their best and most affordable option, depending on where they live and what they believe.

You from S. La., aka, The Land of Private Schools?

Looking at the PC culture of poptart guns and stick men cowboys causing immediate no-contest suspensions, who in their right mind wants to send their kid to public schools?

Add to that the perverted "must accept all deviants" like queers and trans, actually welcome and encourage them with open arms, and home schooling sounds even better.

Add in political indoctrination to embrace Socialism, Communism, Progressivism and encourage physical acts against those with different ideas of politics. Then sprinkle with teacher sexual molestation...what's the downside to home schooling again?

Most of the time it's either hover-moms or religious nuts.
